I just can't believe how callous this WH is. Does he even KNOW what's happening in Cali?

8. He's speaking to a *captive* audience.

They are dutifully obedient and they applaud on cue.
That's the only kind of audience he can get.

11. I do love that photo, and it is so true!
His audience in this case will be "field and senior grade" types--not acolytes.

But they will receive him politely, as he is their crummy Commander in Chief. No mutinies allowed when one is enjoying an advanced educational opportunity!

10. Naaah. I doubt he has much of a BASE anymore at NDU.
It's like being onboard during Vietnam. No one is PROUD of that shit. No one wants to be part of a cadre who who be pointed at and criticized for not piping up, who will be stars of "Lessons Learned" books down through history, and who will get the finger wag of implied cowardice for refusing to speak that old Truth to that moronic Power.

They're hanging their heads in shame.

His base ain't at NDU. They will listen politely and applaud at the right points. If the Superintendent orders them to go Woo Woo Woo they'll do it. But they are no longer enamoured. The bloom has been off that rose for a long time.

President Bush declares emergency in SoCal

Associated Press - October 23, 2007 4:24 AM ET

SAN DIEGO (AP) - President Bush early this morning declared an emergency in Southern California, an action aimed at speeding delivery of federal disaster relief to the seven counties being ravaged by wildfires.

Hundreds of homes and businesses have been destroyed in fierce wind-driven fires that are ravaging Southern California. 500 homes and 100 commercial properties were destroyed in northern San Diego County alone.

At least one person has died and dozens injured and more than 265,000 people from San Diego to Malibu have been told to leave their homes.

3. Because NDU is ten minutes from the White House. He'd have to TRAVEL to go to SOCAL.
He'll take care of the rich who lost their homes. He may even pass a special law for them.

The poorer folk, the middle class, they'll have to wait for the 'trickle down.'

5. Because he is THE WAR PRESIDENT
and the citizens don't matter to him.

If he did speak, it would be all lies - his presence is a law enforcement/ security nightmare on normal visits. Visits to disaster struck regions, they are just salt on the wound.

History repeats itself -- Nero fiddled while Rome burned .....

7. Because he is "The War President"
Fires are natural disasters and he can't take credit for them.
Iraq is a bu$h disaster and he wants full credit. These people will praise him for his disaster.

Do we have a concomitant Peace University? Or is this just another wonderful military boondoggle I get to pay for with my tax dollars and why don't I just shut the hell up?
