That she visited an Irish pub or that I jokingly inferred (via a graphic of my favorite drunk crow, Drinky Crow)?

46. As much as I like Maakies...
I don't care for the stream of insinuations of inebriation with regard to Randi's situation that I have seen recently on DU. At this point, without evedence of unlawful activity from any person or persons, this is a situation that is personal to Randi, and she deserves her privacy. Of course, there will continue to be posts from thise who deem it worthy of their time to malign progressives in pain. And so it goes.

49. She herself said she was at an Irish pub...
...and she went out for a smoke and whammo! She came to, bleeding.

Getting drunk is certainly lawful (unless you're gonna operate a car, a supertanker or an airplane, of course), and perhaps she was teetotaling that night. My posting of Drinky Crow was done in humor and speculation only (that's why I put a shrug smiley at the end of it.)

Regardless of how she hurt herself, I'm EXTREMELY glad she's back, and better than ever!

43. I've blacked out twice...
Both times were horrible... I saw someone about to die, he fell out of the bed of a truck going 90+ on the freeway. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to handle that, so my brain took care of me. Second time was a similar situation, someone was about to die and my brain thought better of letting me see it. I'm very grateful too!

44. Bingo
As someone who was knocked out my a go-go dancer one New Year's Eve and didn't find out about what happened until several days later, I can vouch for that. I swear, one moment I was on the dance floor rocking out and the next thing I knew I was being helped out of the club. It happened so quickly that it took a couple of days for us (and some x-rays and an MRI) to figure out what had logically happened.

It's scary but the docs found nothing wrong with me either.

Randi should be careful and have someone check on regularly for the next few months in case it happens again.

Stay well, Randi. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I was lucky to land on soft surfaces for the most part. Once I collapsed in a parking lot and cut myself very badly. I have scars from the stitches.

Randi landed on a hard surface with no chance to break her fall. I'm glad it wasn't any worse than it was.

72. okay, earlier this year...
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 03:22 PM by Javaman
I had a family emergency that could be described as an extraordinary level of stress in my life, the likes of which I had never experienced before.

To start off with, I'm very healthy, exercise, run, eat right, get yearly check ups, the whole dealy.

So one sunday night, I'm talking about the issue with my wife. (the problem was with my extended family and centered on my Mom), and suddenly I felt this rush of heat take over my body, I turned beat red (later on my wife would tell me, now you know what one of my hot flashes feels like LOL not fun).

Then I felt really strange, no other way to put it. no disoriented, just not right, out of sorts. I then sat down.

just before I passed out, I told my wife to call a doctor, and she said, you mean, 911? I answered yes, and passed out the first time.

they checked me out. I was fine by the time the showed which was literally about 2 minutes later. They asked if I wanted to go to the hospital, I said no. (later on, I found out, they shouldn't have asked and should have just took me)

Anyway, later that night, I have to get up to...pee.

while standing there doing my business, I must have blacked out, because the next thing I know, my wife is standing over me waking me and I'm bleeding from my forehead from smacking it on the counter on the way down.

syncope is a weird thing. it's a nerve based disorder. men can get it getting a proctology exam, while urinating (me) and stress. there are other reasons, any sort of very extreme emotional moment (dad passes out during the birth of a child, yes that actually happens).

The same goes for women, but not being one, I'm not really as familiar with the circumstances needed for them to have one, I would think they would be similar.

The other thing is called vasivagel (spelling), which is chronic fainting. If this is the case, then basically the message between a nerve near the heart and a sort of pace maker in the brain that maintains the beat gets out of sync and causes fainting. I'm no doctor and my description maybe off, but that's how it was explained to me. if you have vasivegal, you have to give up your privilege to drive. Thankfully, I don't have that.

I went through a slew of tests, everything from a stress test, echo cardiogram, to a complete MRI of my brain. No tumors, no heart blockage and I did better than the best on my stress test.

So for me, it was just stress. But that didn't stop it from scaring the hell out of me for a while.

So there is a possibility that she just fainted. Like many people in the media, she could just be stressed out or something going on in her personal life we know nothing about.

I have two expensive caps on my front teeth (more cap than tooth) and an eight long inch scar on my forearm which indicates that, yes-- fainting can cause that much damage. It really depends on where/how you fall and what you fall onto/into.

Personally, I wish she'd stop talking on the radio about where she lives --

She's very heavily attacked Bush . . . . and there are a lot of crazies out there ready

to ensure that "god's chosen" president can continue to get away with the lies and destruction.

I think that prudence indicates that we should simply take her word for it-- and for the time being, agree there was no premeditated attack on her by the RW until there's evidence to support it.

Although I don't listen to her show (I don't listen to any radio talk shows-- it's nothing against her), you seem to imply she's giving a lot of information away about her personal residence, etc. that she shouldn't be-- I hope you're incorrect on that. If not, it may not be a hair-brained scheme if you simply called up her show and gave her a head's-up about it.

100. sometimes they do
My son got hit by a messenger bike guy in DC - on his sixth birthday! We had just gotten off the train for a nice day visiting the museums. We were walking down the street and he was just behind me a bit when a guy on his bike came around one of those huge concrete planters and slammed into him. He had his front tooth knocked out and his mouth was bleeding. We went to the Childrens hospital by ambulance since we were without a car and he had to get a few stitches in his gums. Luckily it was a baby tooth.
The guy did not take off, and we were in contact with the company he worked for. They paid all the bills.
My son is 11 now and still loves to tell that story.
So that could have happened to Randi.

23. She also talked about being hounded by the press outside of her home. Trying
to take pics of her battered face but not asking how she was.

She thanked all that have been there for her in way of her family, friends, lawyer and she thanked everyone in the blogosphere that wished her well.

When she started to choke up with tears. it made me tear up too.

BUT if IDIOT Jon Elliott - and there really is no other word for him - hadn't gone on his rant about the right wing attacking her - I doubt the press would have cared one bit that Randi probably had too much to drink and fell on her face

Nice work Jon Elliott

47. I fell flat on my face, broke my nose, etc., etc. not that long ago.
I have some important information for Randi. Her doctor may already have told her this. If you have abrasions, put on antibiotic cream at first and then put on a combination of pure vitamin E and pure aloe vera extract. You can buy these items at many drugstores, They are not expensive, and they heal and soften the skin very quickly in a natural, healthy way.

I can't get into Randi's forum on website (can't remember my password and user name). Would someone please post this there so that she or her assistants see it. I also advise other people with abrasions to try this.

51. What about a drugged drink?
I have heard multiple stories of people being slipped the so-called date rape drug in their drinks and blacking out. This would be a plausible thing.

Or she could have been slammed into. There was a story in NYC a couple of years ago about a woman who was jogging and was backed into by a truck and killed - I'm sure she never knew what hit her.

I have close calls ten times a week on downtown sidewalks, etc.

64. One of the things that bothered me was Randi sometimes referring to where she lived . . ..
Anything is possible --

from drugged drink -- to a simple accident --

We have to wait for Randi to figure it out and tell us ---

And, the trauma of so much damage to her mouth and eye I think will keep her focused there for a while and presume keeping pain abated.

First, my best wishes to you Randi. . ."so important for you to remount the horse after one falls". . .

but this whole story is soooooo incomplete and INTIMIDATING EVEN to us, which you have to be feeling on top of all your physical pain, Randi. . .

we hope some kind of investigation . . .private or NYPD. . .should at least SEARCH for either witnesses or technical recording of that CORNER site of your fall. . . .

NO WAY WOULD I FEEL SAFE WITH ALL THE "HOLES" in this experience. . .whether the cause was within Randi or from without, only a witnessing record would put me at ease once and for all.

Godspeed for your total recovery, Randi, and the proven truth about what happened.

I wonder if this is the "Dr. Rosenthal" she was referring to.

If so, Dr. Rosenthal isn't exactly the cheapest guy around, not someone anyone here could afford, so I don't think Ms. Rhodes would need Dr. Mika's very generous offer.

it was a STUPID thing to do! I worked in radio and this shit like this spreads like fire. Radio people are the biggest and most vocal gossips. Soon the entire office is talking about it and all the facts get jumbled up.

She might have been joking, but it turned out to be not so funny in the end for HER and she can't admit she did something really, really stupid. She's being all indignant with everybody else and it's reminding me of Larry Craig's toilet paper story.

Either she had a drunken fall and is too embarrassed to admit it, she WAS attacked and is too traumatized to remember, or she was attacked, remembers, and has cooked up this cover story with the cops while they investigate.

It sounds like she just drank too much and fell down while outside for a smoke. No magic, no mystery, no mugging. Just drunkenness. So what? It happens. Nothing wrong with going out and hoisting a few, even a few too many, as long as you're not driving or otherwise putting others in danger, and it appears that she was not driving or otherwise putting others in danger. So, she got a bit wasted and fell down. No biggie. It should have been a non-story and probably would have been had she not claimed that she had been mugged. Now, it's just embarrassing.

But this, too, shall pass.

But she lost consciousness and so, is foggy on what really happened.

I'm glad that her 4 teeth were fixed and her black eye is on the mend.

I don't care what the RW toads have to say. They attacked a 12 year old last week!

They will stoop to the lowest level and then dig a hole.

111. There is no evidence of her being "pushed"
So, for now, I'll have to go with the story that she was drinking and fell down, since that's her story and since it's also consistent with common experience, common knowledge, and the stories of at least a hundred thousand others (this is probably a gross under-estimate) who drink too much and fall down every year in NYC.

It is a bit silly to assume or pretend that other scenarios are more likely in the face of the evidence as we currently know it, coming from Randi herself. It really sounds like she just got a bit drunk and fell on her face. Like I said, it happens. Nothing to be ashamed of. But I don't think it helps her if others post unsubstantiated theories about her being "attacked" or "pushed" as that only feeds the nonsense and draws more unwarranted attention to a single incident of her over-indulging in alcohol and falling on her face.

Which is your unsubstantiated theory.

Like she said on her show, her doctors checked her out and found no physical reason why she would have passed out.
