Ex-Commander Blasts Iraq 'Nightmare'
Ex-Commander Blasts Iraq 'Nightmare'

By Robert Parry
October 12, 2007

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, who commanded U.S. forces in Iraq for the first year of the occupation, blamed “incompetence” by President George W. Bush’s national security team for creating a “nightmare” that could last far into the future.

Sanchez, who led coalition forces from June 2003 to June 2004, used an Oct. 12 speech to a conference of Military Reporters and Editors in Arlington, Virginia, to castigate nearly everyone connected to the Iraq War, including the U.S. news media, Congress, the State Department, the White House and the Pentagon.

“There has been a glaring, unfortunate display of incompetence in strategic leadership among our national leaders,” Sanchez said. “They have unquestionably been derelict in the performance of their duty. In my profession, these types of leaders would be immediately relieved or court-martialed.”

1. I am most likely confused on this...
but wasn't Sanchez part of the problem? Wasn't he the general who Ricks said was way underqualified to be in the position he was in? That doesn't let the administration off in any way...but...

2. He needs to do the rounds of the pundits and get this word out. If
we're the only ones that hear it, it won't make any difference. I wish he had spoken up sooner, but I guess he had to get out first. And I wonder-will the Military Reporters and Editors be spreading the word? Why do I think not?

4. Because you don't read Navy/Army Times. They've had critical articles.
It's not published or associated with the Pentagon or its services in any way.

7. This is big news, so the Media will keep it surppressed.
This is nothing less than a top general calling for the resignation of most of the exectutive branch and the impeachment of the rest of it. He says we the people must hold them and the Congress and the news media accountable.

To me, that's good news.

To the MSM, that's no news.

8. Many Generals have voiced similar views.
It makes no difference to Busholini. He only listens to the voice inside his head that he thinks
is God speaking to him.
