Well, crap. Gore adviser: 2008 run is "extremely remote"
Two Gore advisers, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to share his thinking, said the award will not make it more likely that he will seek the presidency.

If anything, the Peace Prize makes the rough-and-tumble of a presidential race less appealing to Gore, they said, because now he has a huge, international platform to fight global warming and may not want to do anything to diminish it.

One of the advisers said that while Gore is unlikely to rule out a bid in the coming days, the prospects of the former vice president entering the fray in 2008 are "extremely remote."

But who knows. I myself hope to hear something one way or the other in the next few days.

And I myself think the Oval Office would make one hell of a "huge, international platform". ;)

4. It definitely makes one wonder
It seems like they wouldn't be speaking at all without his OK. But who knows.

It is a bit odd that they didn't repeat the official "he hasn't ruled anything out" phrase.

2. "unknown sources"
"alleged advisors"...
There are LOTS of folks out there that don't want him to jump in the race and would love NOTHING better than to kill the momentum that is stirring in America.
If they had the authority to speak FOR him, they wouldn't have to be anonymous.
Thus...their opinions are worthless.

6. Neither of those phrases appear in the article, you know
They were identified as "Gore advisers". Most reporters verify that sort of thing, even if the reporter agrees to not identify them by name.

10. they appear in 100's of articles just like this one
all with the sole purpose of convincing us that he will not run.
However, nobody ever says who they are...
"some people might say" that the reporters are full of shit.
But aside from that...you STILL have faith in the press verifying what they print?

15. Agreed. But it is a point on the side of "not running"
And it is indeed odd that he has not announced. Except that if he WERE to run, this is the smart approach, to get essentially free media coverage, and conserve his eventual campaign funds instead of spending them over the summer.

39. Exactomundo!
This play on words has been going on for MONTHS! If he had truly decided NOT to run, I have no doubt whatsoever that he would have come out and emphatically said... I am NOT going to run for president in the 2008 election! Absolutely NOT going to run. Will NOT run.

He's no fool.

The deal is, Hillary supporters here are shaking in their boots. They see the writing on the wall and still stir the Kool-Aid.

my major in college. I do television interviews with political figures and political commentary.Mostly one find out about this stuff after the fact and it is tough to call people on the "some say" stuff. That is the problem with FOX.

37. Okay, but
"some say" isn't quite the same as having knowledge that sources are actually being made up out of thin air.

"There are those that say" or "some say" are reflective of opinions heard. Inventing actual sources and quotes, is something else altogether, and reportable.

43. But the point is, you can't "prove it'. Because they do not HAVE to
release the name of an anonymous contact. What can someone say when it is reported? This journalist doesn't have a source? They reply, "I do" and the story is ended, seriously. Most journalist do actually have sources.I am not saying they don't but I never automatically believe anything that is anonymously sourced. Many times the reason for that is just to "plant" a story, otherwise, they would be authorized to speak and would give their names. At least that has been true in my experience.

9. Per the CNN Story:
A source involved in Gore's past political runs told CNN that he definitely has the ambition to use the peace prize as a springboard to run for president.

But he will not run, because he won't take on the political machine assembled by Sen. Hillary Clinton, said the source. If the senator from New York had faltered at all, Gore would take a serious look at entering the race, the source said. But Gore has calculated that Clinton is unstoppable, according to the source.

Gore repeatedly denied he has any plans to run again, but this week a group of grass-roots Democrats calling themselves "Draft Gore" took out a full-page ad in The New York Times in a bid to change his mind.

"Your country needs you now, as do your party, and the planet you are fighting so hard to save," the group said in an open letter.

35. Why anyone knows Gore...
has nothing to do with the soundness of his powerpoint presentation, and everything to do with his career as senator, VP and winner of the 2000 popular vote for president. It's clear how he got his platform in the first place, and where the power to actually change things lies.
