Christian groups still targeting John Edwards staff: "This isn't over yet!"
(CNSNews.com) - Religious groups outraged at provocative comments made by two bloggers employed by the John Edwards for President campaign said the resignation of one of the bloggers Monday evening is not enough.

"This isn't over yet," Kiera McCaffrey, director of communications for the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, told Cybercast News Service. "There is still one more anti-Catholic, anti-Christian blogger on his staff."

=====

Democratic presidential contender John Edwards isn't fit to be president if he can't even fire a campaign Web logger who offended a large voter constituency, the president of the nation's largest Catholic civil rights group said Tuesday.

“If he can’t make a decision of this sort to get rid of bigots on your payroll, then he’s essentially disqualifying himself from the White House. I think he’s finished,” said Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

Donohue spoke to FOXNews.com shortly after the resignation of one of two bloggers caught in a firestorm after posting controversial remarks — called anti-Catholic by critics — on their Web sites last week.

3. Well you know what? The Catholic League is OFFENDING ME
by their response to this. They aren't being very...well...Christian.

Practice what you preach, folks. Turn the other cheek. Judge not lest ye be judged. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

They think they're all high and mighty, and they are offensive to their God by their very actions. Nice.

The good news is they will all have the opportunity to explain their actions someday. ;)

Everybody pretty much agrees the guy is a nut and sticks his nose where it doesn't belong.

going, and that probably conflicted with her committment to the Edwards campaign.

Amanda Marcotte posted on her personal blog, Pandagon, that the criticism "was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign." Marcotte said she resigned from her position Monday, and that her resignation was accepted by the campaign.

SNIP

"No matter what you think about the campaign, I signed on to be a supporter and a tireless employee for them, and if I can't do the job I was hired to do because Bill Donohue doesn't have anything better to do with his time than harass me, then I won't do it," Marcotte wrote Monday night.

Earlier Monday, Marcotte wrote on her personal Web site, "The Christian version of the virgin birth is generally interpreted as super-patriarchal, where ... women are nothing but vessels."

11. I hope you are doing OK pnwmom -
I think Edwards showed poor judgement in the the way he handled this - I do.

But that guy Donohue - he does bother me.

I know I sure didn't get to vote for who ran the catholic league - and I resent the implication that he "magically" represents the rest of us - I really do.

Edwards made a bad political judgement - Donohue is a confirmed idiot.

I really hope you are doing ok pnwmom!!

20. You're right. Donohue doesn't represent any of us.
And thanks, Joe, I'm fine. We had a major distraction here for a day, dealing with a collarless stray dog -- but the great news is, I found the owner -- just as he was putting up a "dog lost" sign in my neighborhood.

Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 06:05 PM by flobee1
I am very offended by this mans remarks!

"If he can’t make a decision of this sort to get rid of bigots on your payroll, then he’s essentially disqualifying himself from the White House. I think he’s finished"
And the church is bigot free?

Clean your own house, McCaffrey!
At the moment, the catholic church is in no position to tell others that they are not being christian!
Instead of coming clean about pedophile preists, they relocate them and hide evidence.

I've even heard some quote the bible in refrence to God's use of violence as a positive.
If this is what the church is becoming, count me out.

10. Wow!
I guess you won't be working for any campaigns soon. You're now officially an anti-Catholic bigot, which as much as I can surmise from Donohue's tirades appears to be anyone who doesn't like pedophile priests and views women as something more than baby making chattel.

13. Here's what they wrote:
Among the offending entries was Marcotte's, who wrote: “The Catholic church is not about to let something like compassion for girls get in the way of using the state as an instrument to force women to bear more tithing Catholics.”

The posting by McEwan was headlined to address religious conservatives: "What don't you lousy motherf——ers understand about keeping your noses out of our britches, our beds and our families?"

Sounds pretty accurate to me.

16. Some of the stuff written by those bloggers was
EXTREMELY offensive. If they meant to or not - well, it just was. That is one thing.

Donohue is offensive on a number of levels too.

Now - the two things are not really related - unless we let them be.

Are they?

21. If you think it's accurate you must not know that Catholics don't tithe.
This blogger had a clear conflict of interest, because she was continuing to blog even after she went to work for Edwards. Suppose a newspaper columnist had gone to work for a politician. S/he would have to drop the newspaper column, because it would represent a conflict of interest. The same reasoning applies here.

24. Everybody is entitled to have their own opinion on that matter.
But the reason she chose to resign, IMO, was that s/he wanted to keep up her blog -- and that creates a conflict with the interests of Edwards's campaign.

No doubt Donohue will move on to see who he can get fired from Obama's or Clinton's campaigns.
