I just met Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts!
:bounce:

I was at school, sitting in the lobby of the Campus Center, waiting for Sniffa to pick me up. A group of men in suits were walking by, and I looked up, and there was the Governor!

It's not every day that you get to meet the Governor, so I walked over, waited until he was done taking pics with students, and shook his hand. I then thanked him for not forgetting about Western MA. He said "Are you kidding me? That's God's Country!" I told him it was a pleasure to meet him. :)

Oh, and for my fellow Massholes, I also saw the infamous Cadillac. We were behind him in traffic all the way down Gallivan Blvd. :D

:hi:

3. Congratulations!
That's always fun. I remember meeting Michael Dukakis a long time ago. I was quite excited! It's one of the reasons I had great hopes of him becoming president. It's also one of the reasons I have borne a deep resentment of any person with the last name of Bush who has tricked our country into voting for them! I swore back then that I would never look at the asshole Poppy in the news or otherwise--ever!

It definitely feels good to have a Democrat as governor, and a nice guy at that!! :)

and you meeting Michael Dukakis.

I wrote email to Michael Dukakis about a few months ago and he responded. I find it good to see that such people do talk to regular people, and respond to electronic mail.

Oh and I also sent email to Vice President Mondale this year and last year and got a few responses from him as well.

9. That's great!
You know, I used to be star-struck growing up and knowing celebrities (as in Hollywoodian types) was all I could think of most of the time. But then I grew up, went to work for a studio, and quickly found out that actors are not very exciting people for the most part. In fact, people in politics--good people!--are more interesting and provide more passion.

Mr. Mondale certainly proved to be an iconoclast, and certainly had one of the more liberal minds in politics. This would have been a very different country if he had been elected president.

11. A few years ago a cousin of mine
was walking in Boston while a friend of hers was skateboarding. He fell and a man in a trench coat started to laugh. She called him a dirty old man and they all continued on their separate ways. The next day she was starting a college class and that "dirty old man" was her Professor Michael Dukakis. From what she said he ended up being a great guy.

5. When he first became Governor, the State Police
were going to provide him with a Crown Victoria (I think) for his personal car. His team chose instead to go with the Cadillac, b/c it's armored or something. Anyway, it was a big 'scandal' in the papers for weeks, along with the draperies he chose for his office, b/c they were supposedly too expensive. :eyes:

10. He had quite a sense of humor about it, though.
At the St. Patrick's Day celebration, in Salem, he introduced himself as "Deville" Patrick!

He is a very "nice guy" and his ego really doesn't need constant feeding. He was given a lot of flak from the opposition when he was first in office.

Remember when he needed to use the helicopter to get to an appointment and get back to the state house for a budget meeting? Republicans were all over that one! "Who does he think he is? If he has a budget meeting, he should not go to anything that might make him late DRIVING back"!

Well.....That first appointment was the funeral of a Massachusetts KIA in Iraq.... He din, in my opinion, EXACTLY what he should have done. As far as I know, he has attended every KIA funeral since he took office. He was even late to the MA Dem Convention because of a funeral. ....They ar MUCH more important....screw the asses that don't like it!

8. I have to be honest, I was really excited about him and so far, I am not
impressed with him as a governor. Better than Mittens, but I saw this inspiring candidate and now I just see another pol asshole.

:(
