Central Floridians Face Possible Fines For Watching Street Races
Central Floridians Face Possible Fines For Watching Street Races

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Street racing is illegal in Orange County, but a new proposed ordinance would fine spectators for watching the races.

Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart is proposing the new law that would find all spectators.

Stewart said she hopes the crackdown will curb some of the large crowds that gather to watch the races in parts of the county.

Street racing is a crime in Florida, and a first-time offender could be punished by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Someone caught street racing twice in a five-year period can have their car seized.
