but it just sort of dawned on me...
Bad as VN was, with connivance to get us in to it, and then terrible mismanagement with amateurish civilians trying to define strategy and tactics...
This clusterfuck ECLIPSES it. Oh, the body count is nowhere as bad. Even if you count the horribly maimed, who would have died in VN, we are only at about one-fifth the total so far.
But this - this is being driven by pure, unadulterated evil. VN was a fuckup, with lots of incompetence. But they are doing this ON PURPOSE. With whatever self-serving motives they have, somehow having to do with enriching the few at the expense of the many.
I am not a believer in any supreme being. But I am beginning to believe in EVIL as an actual force.
In pure unadulterated evil, this is on a par with the continuing state-sponsored carnage in Darfur. It is on a par with the holocaust. It is people in power doing whatever the fuck they want to further their own self-aggrandizement with literally no compunctions, not a shred of sympathy or remorse. They could look at that photo of the marine's wedding and say "so, what's your point?"
If/when we get them out of power, we have a moral obligation to see them all tried for crimes against humanity. That Douglas Feith guy may only be Eichmann or Rommel, but Cheney is at least Goring and Bush Hitler. Or vice versa. And Wolfowitz is Hess. And any one of them could give Milosovic a run for his money. Or, ironically, Saddam Hussein.
Remember- during the rise of the Nazi's, and right through the war, plenty of good germans kept supporting their government - blind, knee-jerk "patriotism", I suppose. It took a lot of people a long time to come to grips with how bad they really were.
Ok, I feel better. Now back to our regular programming.
