Breaking: Bush vetoes children’s health insurance.
Breaking: Bush vetoes children’s health insurance.

President Bush’s veto of an SCHIP expansion was only the fourth veto of his presidency. AP reports that the White House “sought as little attention as possible, with the president wielding his veto behind closed doors without any fanfare or news coverage.” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said that they have not yet scheduled a date for an override vote, but it could be “next week” or “the week after.”

22. The motto was, "No ONE child left behind."
Instead, he left hundreds of thousands in the dirt. So, technically, he was correct.

I guess the death counts are down just enough in Iraq that he has to slack his bloodthirst with dead American children.

11. I hope they override it
Both my kids are on sChip and it's fantastic. One thing I dont' have to worry about is whether anything bad happens to them. It's 100%. All doctors visits, medicines. Even dental. It's fantastic.

Bush vetoed this because sChip is better than the private plans and would encourage people who already have health care privately to switch their children to a government program. He's admiting that government run health care can do the job for people better and cheaper than private ones.

I know we're one of the ones who switched. To add my kids on to my plan as a family would have cost me close to 400 more a month, and with a 3500 deductable 80/20 plan no less.

Hmm. 80 bucks a month with 0 deductable and 100/100 vs 400 a month with 3500 deductable and 80/20.

I wonder why people fucking prefer government run health care Mr. Bush.

Asshole.

20. I don't see how he can say that
it is being funded by a regressive tax on smokers not the general population. I am for it but I can afford my addiction which other's can't. It will put a nail in any republican who voted against it campaign and I am for that. Still, I think it could have been funded with a more stable fair tax.

18. Not unexpected.
Still, what a cocksucker. He's suddenly objects to spending 35 billion to help get children decent health care, yet turns around and demands 600 billion for the military.

Congress is close, but didn't quite make a veto override - they've got the votes in the Senate, they're only short by 25 in the House. Think some arm-twisting could turn this into a veto override? Nothing would make me happier than seeing this shoved down Bush's throat!

24. Florida..call...Kathy Castor (D)
.............it was particularly disappointing to see Tampa's Kathy Castor join just seven other Democrats who voted against the compromise bill.

Castor has worked hard on this issue and enjoyed a prominent role in passing the original House bill.

Her office says she voted against the compromise because, among other issues, it does not make income verification as easy for families as she would like or create a funding formula as favorable for Florida as she wanted. But there were some improvements and significantly more money, and Florida's program is setting records for new applications.

Castor's vote to cling to the ideal over the pragmatic seems naive at best. Apparently, it's her way or no way.
