a picture? If so, I don't understand all the furor against a national ID card. We already are registered nationally, and, a picture on the card would just help insure that a fake could not be produced. Seems it would PROTECT out privacy.

And, personally, as one who has lived in several different states, I would really appreciate a national driving license. It's a pain every time we move to have to get another one.

1. I doubt if that's the only difference. I'm sure there's a nefarious reason for

promoting it.

I know that in NC there's hologram on new drivers licenses that some feared could be some kind of tracking device or face recognition technology or some other underhanded thing. The NC DMV as well as the government site on myth vs facts denied it, but who knows?

I don't think we'll be getting a national drivers license because that would deprive the individual states of revenue.

At least until we become the North American Union, of course. :tinfoilhat:

Edited to add my tin foil chapeau.

2. national id
is used in authoritarian countries as a means to control movement and access to services. If it were implemented they could make it compulsory to show it to law enforcement under any circumstances or face arrest. The danger is not in the card but in the database that would come into being to support the program. If you had to show it to buy something it would allow the feds to pinpoint you on a daily basis. If our federal government had honorable intentions in wanting this it would be ok, but as we have seen they abuse every point of control we have ever given them.
