Poll question: Take Clinton and Obama out of the equation.
And for the purposes of this poll, omit another fave, Gore.

So of the remaining, current candidates, who gets your vote for President?

This particular election is unique with more absolutely critical issues than ever, and added to that we have the first woman and the first African American candidates vying for the office. (I realize there's way more to them than that, but the media hype is astounding, you gotta admit.) It's hard to imagine that in a Obama and Clinton-less scenario, the frenzy would be so high regardless of the popularity any candidate.

So please only play IF you would vote for one of these guys. If you would choose not to vote or would write in your choice, I'm not giving you the option here because it would skew the very scientific results.

If you're so inclined to participate, thanks!

1. Toss up between Biden and Richardson
Biden probably gets the edge. Maybe.

14. If this actually were the scenario, I'm sure we'd have a better idea in whose direction
we'd be leaning. Thanks for responding. :toast:

2. There's no hard rule but as a courtesy we try and keep campaign stuff in GD-P
GD-P actually started out a specialized forum for the primaries which was then kept.

6. I'm still slogging my way around as a newbie, but the other day I read the
loose guidelines in a post and you're right -- it should have gone there. Thanks for the reminder. We'll see if I can remember it in the future. :7

8. Its not a big deal.

Its just a courtesy to GD dwellers who quickly tire of us supporters posting endless threads about the campaign.

Or maybe that's just me they tire of ;-)

3. I wish people knew history better
This election is not the first one with a woman or an African American candidate vying for the office.

5. I suspect it's a wording issue
They are vying to be the first woman US president and first African American US president, respectively.

I was going to post about this too, but my initial reaction was just that the op should be better worded.

(I wish people weren't so quick to think the worst of others.)

7. I'll clarify. The first woman and African American candidates who have risen
to this level of prominence and exposure to the masses. But I suspect you know that.

9. Actually Shirley Chisholm was well known also
and she was both of those things.
I guess it's all in how you define "level of prominence and exposure to the masses."
As for what I know or don't know, what can I say? -- I'm a proofreader by profession and I have two degrees in writing. As a result, I like people to be clear from the start about what they mean instead of them assuming that their reader will magically know what they mean without sufficient information.

11. Yes and Yes. I was going to comment and try to clarify further but in all
seriousness, now I'm nervous that I might not express myself "correctly". Kind of takes the enjoyment out of the whole thing.

My apologies that I wasn't clear from the start -- or subsequently -- since that's how you like people to be.

17. No need to be nervous
it might not have come across that I have a friendly attitude about all this.
No need to apologize either --- just don't let it happen again!!!!:) I kid, I kid.

22. Yeah, and in retrospect I took the whole thing too personally which is kind of
ironic considering my holier-than-thou posts blaming others of not being able to objectively participate in a poll!

And I can almost guarantee it will happen again -- most likely repeatedly.

Thanks for your post -- all of them! :toast:

10. Okay! You've pointed out my GRIEVOUS errors! I realize how poorly worded
my OP is thanks to your "grading my paper" and comments.

What was I thinking? That maybe other DUers would be curious as to the responses as well? That maybe other DUers wouldn't take such glee in pointing out my abysmal grammar? That maybe other DUers might not attack me personally due to my being ignorant of historical facts?

I'm sorry this innocuous post upset you to the point of feeling you just HAD to point out my failures and tell me how smart you are.

You've opened my eyes. You've put me in my place and here I'll stay.

Gratefully,

Gateley
