Poll question: Does posting on DU put us in peril?
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 12:23 PM by Texas Explorer
I was perusing some other website where I saw an image of some sort of control room which appeared to be monitoring communications. It drew a supressed paranoia from the back of my mind to the front and I think it is time for me to confront it.

Does posting on DU put me in great personal peril? I have been quite harsh in my criticism of this administration the country/government in general. Has this landed me on a watchlist somewhere? Do you think you are being monitored because of your participation on DU?

I would love to see a good discussion of these questions.

If TSHTF, are we subject to being rounded up and detained with no recourse of habeas corpus? Would I be wrong if decided to play it safe and desist my participation here?

Thanks in advance for your input and insights.

5. Anything remotely associated with thinking will be against the law pretty soon.
Groupthink will not only be the norm. It will be the only.

6. if DHS ever starts to "round up dissidents..."
...or even just prepare for the eventuality, then I'd expect them to go after the low hanging fruit first. Vocal critics who post on the internet are easy. So are university professors, LOL.

7. "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!"
DU probably is monitored. Whether or not you worry about it, is entirely up to you. I choose to not let the fear dominate me as that seems to be what they're actually aiming for: instilling fear in the population as a way of squelching dissent. There are too many dissenters in this country for "them" to deal with in a "round 'em up" fashion.

9. OTHER. If it did, we would not have to ask this question by now!
I was told by an insider that ALL communications are diverted overseas to circumvent the law and the Constitution.

So, any communication at all in electronic media, phone calls, e-mails, everything, faxes, you name it, if it is transmitted it is captured and stored, can be monitored. Get used to it and don't let it affect your behavior in the slightest!

10. maybe
I overheard a protester at the first march on Washington before the invasion: "Welcome to the re-opening of our FBI files"

I couldn't care less. I would, however, like my children to use the FOIA to look for my old protest pics in the files.

16. No, but not for the reasons in your poll, however.
We are not at risk (too much) because fascists (the next incarnation here in the US) have decided that it really doesn't matter that we complain about them or communicate our resistance to their rule. So long as they have the backing of the MSM and the military industrial complex, they really don't care what we post or blog. In fact, it preserves the illusion of freedom (if not democracy) for us to do just that. So why bother rounding us up and putting us in detention centers (until and unless they believe that we will do more than blog about stuff)?

17. Nobody cares if I post at DU because..
.. I'm not represented by anyone in power.

They can do whatever they want no matter
what I do... so they just don't care.

They can screw the country, move money
away from the poor, working, and middle
classes into the hands of the havemores;
they can wage stupid, senseless, destructive
wars with no end in sight and the prospect
for more; they can destroy the planet's ability
to support human life with impunity; and they
just don't fukking care.

Life is so good.

21. Perhaps, but why worry?
All our eletronic communications are recorded but only a very small percentage is monitored. How can a handfull of people monitor billions of phone calls, let alone even more emails?

I won't have enough to live on as a senior, won't be able to afford health insurance. Maybe I will try the three strike = life in prison technique. Three squares and a roof over my head may not sound like a bad idea in a few years.

Prisoners in the future may end up fodder for medical experimentation.

31. Peril? I doubt it. A list maybe, but not peril...
Puts you in peril? Hardly. Maybe puts you on a list, but I really don't see black helicopters coming for you unless you've been inciting people to revolution or taking up arms or calling for a war or some such nonsense. I don't think there enough cells in the prison industry to "disappear" over 70% of the country.

Personally, I honestly don't think this administration gives a rat's ass about the average tax-payer who insults or complains about their policies.

35. Posting on DU will definitely put you in peril, but there is no need to worry until
you reach a thousand post because, until then nobody gives a shit about what you have to say any way.

But, too be sure if your on their list or not and you have gone over a thousand post here on DU, you might want to try and take a trip on an air plane, and if they subject you to some kind of anal probing or offer you a vacation package too Gitmo I would be a little suspicious and probably change my DU screen name and account so I could start all over with 0 post and just not do so many k&R’s in the future if ya know what I mean...

could put us in danger, but I am thinking not.

I wanted to add that the only thing posting on the DU has put me in danger of is a divorce. The past couple of weeks, I have been spending WAY too much time on here.
