CNN's Sanchez: O'Reilly "screamed at the top of his lungs for a very long period of time"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200709260002

Summary: Bill O'Reilly stated that CNN has gone "over to the dark side" for its coverage of O'Reilly's recent statement that he was surprised "there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City ... even though it's run by blacks." O'Reilly said he "talked to CNN last night" before the controversy was discussed on CNN's Out in the Open and "explained the deal." He added, "They went ahead with the racist angle anyway." Out in the Open host Rick Sanchez responded to O'Reilly's assertion: "Never once did we utter the word 'racist' in relation to Bill O'Reilly," adding that O'Reilly "screamed at the top of his lungs for a very long period of time."

A bigoted statement is a bigoted statement.

4. i listened t the whole segment and no matter what Billo says or Juan Williams what he
said was racists and it it showed his ignorance. Doesn't Billo work right in Manhattan? i grew up in Mass and for a time Billo was a newscaster there and guess what---there are black people that live in boston so either he never gets out anywhere or he actively avoids black people which i'm not sure how the mechanics of that would even work.

26. One wonders, after all the brohaha about
Biden's comments that Barak was "articulate", how anyone could make such a statement. BillO is so full of himself that it is also a wonder that he hasn't imploded.

6. Anyone wonder how much this flare-up has helped Media Matters?
I bet that every time Bill O. bitches about MM, they take on at least a couple hundred additional curiosity seekers... and they're probably not ALL batshit crazy.

I bet a few who visit have never seen any criticism of FoxNews or corporate media in general, before. I bet a few see the light.

8. he's usually pretty careful about not mentioning their name directly though
At least on his TV show. He doesn't even refer to Al Franken by his real name, he calls him by the name of one of his old characters on SNL (I can't remember which one).

19. I wouldn't know from firsthand experience
but the Media Matters transcripts I've seen have him complaining about Media Matters by name.

And I've gotten flack in other forums from a conservative or two about citing the "far left moonbat" website.

So I suspect it's getting to be well known, if not as well know as Drudge is to us (but give it time, give it time...)

12. Why do the commentators at CNN
condemn O'Reily when they have Glen Beck who is even worst. When they give rush coverage. It seems to me that's discriminating. I think they are all racist and should not be near the airwaves much less broadcast over them.

13. If he really WASN'T a racist - he wouldn't have been surprised in the restaurant
Everything he said implied that he couldn't believe African-Americans were capable of behaving in a civilized manner like running a good restaurant and eating there without yelling motherfucker at each other, and no doubt setting up a crack house in the back.
What a fucking moronic douche-bag, and the thing he REALLY hates, is that Media Matters just puts his words out there - no editing - for everybody to see in all their stupidity. there's no way this was taken out of context.

Then he's REALLY lost cause--which he confirmed by saying that CNN had gone over to "the DARK side..."

Rick Sanchez: Take it from me, prison will do that to you.

Daryn Kagan: What do you know about prison, Rick?

Rick Sanchez: Not a thing. I just like to hear myself talk. (smiles wide)

Daryn Kagan: You are an idiot.

Rick Sanchez: Your boyfriend is Rush Limbaugh.

Daryn Kagan: All right, that's private.

Rick Sanchez: You see Rush Limbaugh naked - and you LIKE it.

.... Swarthy, preternaturally tan male: And I'm Rick Sanchez. A weekly newspaper in Miami is speculating that… let me see if I've got this right… that I, WSVN anchor Rick Sanchez, am a secret agent agitating for Castro's Cuba. ....
Cafiero: That's right, Rick. ... Critics of your sensational broadcasting style are claiming you are, in large part, responsible for the civic unrest that followed the removal of Elián Gonzalez from the home of his relatives in Little Havana. Those disturbances, you may recall, served to weaken the position of Miami's exile community while strengthening Fidel Castro's iron grip on power.

Sanchez : Ah… wait a second here, Carmel. You just used the word sensational. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean good? ....

Cafiero: Not in this context, Rick. You see, a close examination of your performance over the course of the Elián saga reveals your reporting helped make the entire Cuban-exile community appear ridiculous. ....

18. Bill should get in the time machine
and go back to the 1950's. He'll be hailed as the progressive intellectual he likes to think he is. How incredibly embarrassing. He's even more of a laughingstock now. And we didn't think that was possible.

20. we are all a little prejudiced , anybody who says otherwise is lying
What he said was stupid, maybe even a little bigoted, but I'm not sure it is hateful. Give him a break. Besides, nobody watches Fox News to get fair and balanced reporting.

21. Not "hateful", but...
We should give Bill "a break" for being that collossally ignorant of real life? He's a major media figure fercrissakes! No one who is that clueless about the real world should be allowed to pontificate the way he does on TV.

27. Here's the thing--if life were fair, and Bill O' were just some guy I heard saying this...
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 10:49 AM by bunkerbuster1
I'd just chuckle, talk to him, try to learn more about why he was surprised to find black folks so civilized.

But he's not just some guy. He's a media figurehead with hundreds of thousands of viewers who actually believe the nonsense he spews. And if you haven't been paying attention, he says some incredibly nasty things about anyone to the left of, oh, Joe Lieberman...

http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/search_results?qstring=bill+o%27reilly

So where I'm going with this is, we don't have the luxury of being nice or fair to Bill.

24. We may indeed all be racist to one extent or not...
We may indeed all be prejudiced to one extent or not-- but I think that for the most part, we are able to quell those dark urges. Those of us who can't hold our tongues or our actions, should and will get called on it. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to think otherwise.

"I went over to LanternWaste's house for dinner last night and you know what? He actually used utensils and didn't beat his wife..." Any statement even remotely resembling that, is hate-- it's justified hate hidden inside of ignorance, but it's still hate.
