Santa Fe County declares mud emergency - for real

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert.php?lang=eng

State of New Mexico, USA

Melting snowfall in the southern part of Santa Fe County has created a muddy mess for residents. And county officials have declared a state of emergency as a result. County commissioners plan to request state funds once cost estimates for emergency services are tallied. The county has activated its emergency operations center and set up a hot line following requests for help from rural residents who couldn't get out of their driveways. City-county emergency management director Martin Vigil says the center has fielded about 40 calls from people who needed supplies such as food or propane. Road crews have tried clearing some of the mud, but they say it's impossible to clear all of it.

1. Doesn't help that all of the newcomers to SF want their steep dirt roads up to the hills
In the old days (1960's) getting stuck or at least prevented from going on because of the mud was expected. You got out and hiked the rest of the way. Of course, Santa Fe was about 1/4 the size and much less "Rich" back then. Few people lived in the south part of the country also, mostly Ranch and Reservation land. The growth there has been disgusting.

2. Mud season in NM is a little different from mud season
in the northeast or midwest. Cars here that get stuck in the stuff and aren't pulled out before it dries require a sledgehammer at best and jackhammer at worst. There's a reason people still build their houses out of the stuff.

3. want to talk about big trouble?
multiply all that snow out west by about 100,000,000 and you get Greenland.

Which is now melting.
