License Plate Abortion Debate Continues- NOW Proposes 'United For Choice' Message
License Plate Abortion Debate Continues
NOW Proposes 'United For Choice' Message

POSTED: 10:27 am EST February 12, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An abortion rights group is proposing a new Florida license plate reading "United for Choice" and featuring a human figure surrounded by stars as a counterpoint to an anti-abortion rights plate the state already issues.

The Orlando chapter of the National Organization for Women is trying to raise at least $60,000 for an application fee and complete a survey demonstrating at least 30,000 people would buy its proposed plate.

The plate would then face a tough fight in the Republican-controlled Legislature.

If approved, the plate's sales would benefit sex education programs that do not focus solely on abstinence and better access to contraception, according to the group.

The group's proposal comes more than six years after a "Choose Life" tag went on sale in Florida.

The bright yellow plate with a drawing of a boy and girl provoked fierce debate by state lawmakers and generated a court battle. It raises money for agencies that encourage women to seek adoption instead of abortion.

6. The ones for Arkansas are the same pattern, but the website
shows them as a more golden shade of yellow. I've never seen one on a vehicle even though they have apparently been available since 2003.
