A factoid stuck in my brain from, "The War"...
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 03:55 PM by Javaman
From Ken Burns, "the war" documentary, stated that the cost of WWII in todays dollars would be roughly 3 trillion dollars.

that was the cost of fighting a war on two fronts over the entire global with US industry pumping out war materials 24/7 and the entire nation mobilized.

Think about about that for a second.

Now here we are today, moron* has pissed away almost 1 trillion on Iraq and what if anything do we have to show for it?

a trillion fucking dollars!!! We should have a won in that ONE nation a looooooong time ago, right???

if anyone tells me this fucking war isn't about oil and isn't about stealing our money to the rich can get richer, I'm going to kick them in the teeth.

1. I wish I had the flexibility to reach their teeth. I'll have to settle for kicking them in the
codpiece.

5. I can still get to the teeth, but it involves
having a lot of room to swing a lifted leg.

The lifted leg is also good for the follow up.

2. You can't compare WWII with Iraq
What did Berlin look like at the end of that war?

4. Compare
Exactly, the freepers are always comparing Iraq to WWII, when it is the complete opposite, or
does not even come close.

Japan attacked US, Germany declared war on US, then in return

7. are you insinuating I'm a freep?
just checking. and to note, I was talking monetary issues not anything else.

My point is: this whole frigging travesty in Iraq is either one colossally fucked up mismanaged money clusterfuck or they are stealing from us blind and laughing all the way to the bank.

3. what impacted me....
What impacted me the most is that the USA suffered 406,000 deaths.

And this is paltry compared to Germany, Poland and Russia, and the Jewish genocide. At least the US dead per War is sloping downwards vs. time. Iraq 2 certainly wrecks the curve, but hopefully we can keep this figure below 4,000 until we finally leave for good.

6. Just moments before that in the program a much more important 'factoid' was given
The narrator said that the US economy began to boom in the two years preceding the attack on Pearl Harbor because of sales (and presumably lend/lease) to the belligerents world-wide.

I might also add this tid-bit for those who are interested. A fellow named H.L. Hunt (name ring a bell?) sold the allied powers 60% of all the petroleum products consumed by the allies during WW-II. You can follow his family line through his two sons who tried their best to corner the world's silver market to his grandson who now is in cahoots with Bush in the rape of our current economy.
