Stop the Lieberman-Kyl Declaration of War on Iran.
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 01:58 PM by Tom Joad
here we go again, folks. I wonder how many dems will be apologizing for not opposing this in 5 years?
And what is the justification?

From Bob Fertik, at http://www.democrats.com

Last week, Joe Lieberman was crushed when Gen. BetrayUs refused to embrace Lieberman's demand for war on Iran.

So did Lieberman show his respect for the Great General and give up? Absolutely not.

He called his warmongering Republican friends Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Norm Coleman (R-MN), and persuaded them to co-sponsor an amendment to put the entire Senate on record demanding war with Iran.

Jonathan Schwarz has the exact language:

(3) that it should be the policy of the United States to combat, contain, and roll back the violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its foreign facilitators such as Lebanese Hezbollah, and its indigenous Iraqi proxies;

(4) to support the prudent and calibrated use of all instruments of United States national power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military instruments, in support of the policy described in paragraph (3) with respect to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies.

Schwarz correctly adds:

If something like this passes both the House and Senate, I think Bush could legitimately argue that between it, the War Powers Act and the 2001 and 2002 Authorizations to Use Military Force, he has all the authority he needs to attack Iran.

So what are we going to do about this outrage?

Start by telling your Senators not to attack Iran:

Edit to add:
I think all of us would like to know of any responses you are getting from your individual Senators. So do post that. In addition to the electronic petition above, it would be a good idea to call your two Senate offices from your state and let them know of your concern. If you get any more than an aide saying "I will pass your concerns to the Senator" reply, please post it.

5. It has little to do with CT, and everything to do with how the rest of the senate acts
Lieberman and Kyl will get nowhere unless they have help.

9. (shrug) I happen to think Lieberman's presence has a great deal to do with CT...
... Opinions may vary on that, apparently.

10. Like i said, if it were just Lieberman, this would get nowhere. Other senators need to
support it. Or work to oppose it.

6. That's pretty good!
A general declaration of war all over the Mid-East, and on the excuse of "Hunting Terrorists", we can probably enter any sovereign nation in the general area(Syria, anyone?) on that excuse.

Blank check #3 anyone?

11. CALL YOUR SENATORS TOLL-FREE...

At 800 828-0498
or 866 340 9281
You'll get the switchboard. Ask for one of your senators. After that call, make a second and ask for your other Senator.

Then post here and say you did it. That'll help keep this kicked!

Thanks.
