Iran: You know, there are some really fucking stupid people in this world.
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:08 AM by originalpckelly
" At a farewell reception at Blair House for the retiring chief of protocol, Don Ensenat, who was President Bush's Yale roommate, the president shook hands with Washington Life Magazine's Soroush Shehabi. "I'm the grandson of one of the late Shah's ministers," said Soroush, "and I simply want to say one U.S. bomb on Iran and the regime we all despise will remain in power for another 20 or 30 years and 70 million Iranians will become radicalized."

"I know," President Bush answered.

"But does Vice President Cheney know?" asked Soroush.

President Bush chuckled and walked away."

Meanwhile, the deadly delusion fools running this Administration, have friends saying this:
"WE MUST bomb Iran.

It has been four years since that country's secret nuclear program was brought to light, and the path of diplomacy and sanctions has led nowhere.

First, we agreed to our allies' requests that we offer Tehran a string of concessions, which it spurned. Then, Britain, France and Germany wanted to impose a batch of extremely weak sanctions. For instance, Iranians known to be involved in nuclear activities would have been barred from foreign travel — except for humanitarian or religious reasons — and outside countries would have been required to refrain from aiding some, but not all, Iranian nuclear projects."
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-muravchik19nov19,0,1681154.story?coll=la-opinion-center

We must do something to stop this. The Democrats appear to be chickening out once again, but unlike Iraq, this could have even more dire consequences for our nation.

Even if we call their offices, that's not going to work.

If we protest, we know from experience that won't work either.

What the hell else do we do?

on this board. The Democrats this and the Democrats that and how they are all wrong. We can't trust them. For christ sakes they have only been there a short time. Maybe you should get off the board and read other information. They have held hearings and are making progress. If they start tipping things over your going to have a back lash. Let the repuks look stupid and they do.

20. Regardless of whether or not I agree with you, there is no reason for you to tell the OP to shut up.
That was simply rude and completely uncalled for.

Disagree and debate all you like, but please be polite. It's what separates us from the "repuks"...

5. you are just being over dramatic
When in the past four years have we ever bombed a country without proper justification simply because a faction of nuts within the government felt that it served their greater (financial) good?

Oh wait, didnt we just do that?

I mean, come on it's not like we have two carrier strike groups in the region, a third on the way...
Or like we have given Patriot anti-missle batteries to our friends in the region...
Or we are beginning to make up a list of lies in order to demonize Iran so that we can strike them...
Or we are trying to tie them to terrorism...

You're just being crazy by observing what we did four years ago and predicting that we'll do it again...because we are well on the way to.... um I forgot what I was going to say

6. We need to start calling the Speaker and promise to remove her from office in a primary...
if she allows a resolution on Iran to come up. She lives in SF after all, and I don't think they'll be too happy with her letting Bush bomb Iran.

7. there will not be another resolution
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:28 AM by itsmesgd
shrub will use the "authority" he has already been given under the terror something-or-other act. Congress needs to actively rebuke his previous authorization(s), else he will continue to use it. Hillary said that she felt that she was lied to when she voted for the Iraq war resolution, but they have yet to repeal it. It will not facilitate bringing the troops home, but it would stop shrub from using this as his claim that Congress supports him.

BUT...The Congress cannot even vote on whether or not to vote for a non-binding resolution to slap his hands. So, nothing will get done.

on edit:
Seder just hit this same story into the upper deck and posed the question "what will we do when the Congress does not give him further authorization and attacks Iran anyway?"

never underestimate the propaganda organs of the Republican party. Just look at that damn bullshit story about Pelosi's fucking plane. Imagine if it was something really important.

our reps need to grow or buy a set of cojones and take these jerks to the woodshed. Or step down and let someone else do their job. This bs cowering crap is enabling the pukes, and that's wrong.

15. Yes, if they don't act and we happen to have a country left, I say we elect in a new batch
of Democrats, i.e., vote for their opponent in their next Democratic Primary.

That's about all the leverage us "little people" have now.

Hello!?! You whorish corporate M$M! Iran is NOT a threat! Warmongering a**holes! :puke:

BayCityProgressive had a thread talking about the people who fund the DLC:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=173238

They're the same people that fund Republican organizations.

There are a lot of Democrats in the House and Senate who are members of that "New Democrat Coalition" which is the caucus for the DLC.

That's more than enough to vote for the resolution with the Republicans, and then it would look like everyday Democrats were equally responsible for the war, when we are not.

21. I'm with you there.
I guess the only thing us peasant class Democrats (non-investors in the war machine) can hope for is that we have a country left after the BLOW-BACK from the insane actions of PNAC Republicans and DLC Democrats has run it's full course.

By then, the terms "right wing" and "conservative" will be despised as much as "left wing" and "liberal" are now.

Unfortunately, we will be back to a full blown depression and the rich will have moved their families to South America. :(

11. it's all about putting us to sleep with the BS stories
Just like before 9/11. It was Gary Condit, Shandra Levy day after day then boom, 9/11/01.
So now it'll be Pelosi's plane, Anna Nichol Smith.......Iran war.

Or my big fear is that he knows he cant start another war without another "Pearl Harbor-type attack here at home". No one will notice that we have had the Navy in the gulf on standby waiting for something to happen, but we will go soft after an attack here and just start screaming for war (again).

13. It's not Iran but The United States of America that is FEARED by the world community.
Therefore, we are *the bogeyman*, not Iran, EVEN IF they are seeking a nuclear weapons.

Why? The rest of the world, especially the countries in the M.E. want to do the same in order to PREVENT the USA from invading their Countries.

Well, DUH! We are the NAZIS now ... especially if we bomb Iran and do not leave the sovereign country of Iraq instead of remaining as occupiers.

14. they have to get nukes
If they are sitting on oil, they are marked for death. The only reason that Kim Il is safe in North Korea is that we think that he might already have a nuke or two.

It goes back to the term "Mutual Assured Destruction" from the cold war. We didn't attack the USSR is because we knew that they would destroy us too. If the Soviets did not have a nuke, we would have nuked them.

Having a nuke is self defense. Not using the nuke, but having it.

18. Jefferson wanted media to be the "fourth estate" in the government to assist in the checks
and balances along with the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches. Unfortunately, the original three branches are being controled by the "unitary executive" king shrub. The MSM has also fallen under his control and the control of the corporate masters that run the rest of the government. So we now not only have a totalitarian government but media as well. And they will act in unison with the rest of the government to get this war started.
