decision to veto a bill the Democrats want to put forth that would provide 50 billion to the Childrens Health Care Program. Of course this is a rhetorical question, however, it begs to wonder.

The budget stands at 35 million now. Yesterday, I read in the Sunday paper, how Bush calls this "irresponsible and would be the Democrats fault if he vetoed this bill." (I will try to find an online link since I actually read it in the Star-Telegram) He gives the lame excuse as it taking away from the private companies and causing "us" to depend on the government. Unbelievable. This man has no conscious.

My two children are on CHIPS and we DO pay for it. We are at an income level above Medicaid, therefore, allowing us to at least cover our children with health care after scouring for a private insurance company. My spouse's job doesn't offer health insurance so we have been compelled to look into this personally. The CHIPS program allows some peace of mind if my children get sick and on top of that, many private hospitals take it, so Bush's argument there is moot.

For someone who spouts his "compassionate conservatism" he is sorely lacking. Oh, and by the way, he did this in Texas when he was governor--imagine that:eyes:

It's a shame that he continues to spend billions on this illegal war, but he can't even think of saving children.

John Kerry sums this up pretty well:

WASHINGTON D.C. – Sen. John Kerry issued the following statement this morning in response to President Bush’s remarks on the negotiations surrounding SCHIP reauthorization.

“President Bush today once again threatened to veto health care for poor children. The president hides behind the word “federalization” because his political base opposes doing what is decent and humane. The Senate and the House both approved legislation that would extend health care coverage for poor kids, not cut it back. It would be a refreshing reversal if the president remembered the promise he made in 2004, when he spoke out forcefully in favor of SCHIP. On behalf of families across the country who want him to put kids first, we ask the President not to put their health care coverage last.”

I'm not good at organizing these things, but I feel like this is one issue I could be a quick learner.
