How stupid are these CNN anchors?
John Roberts just said he used to live in Canada, but he is "American now".

John, did Canada get removed from North AMERICA??

Canadians are Americans too. So are Mexicans and Brazilians.

I learned right away to say I was from 'The States' and not 'America'. The Canadian people called me on that immediately.

I would call them Americans. If they were only from the US, I would call them US citizens.

10. Well, technically we are all NORTH Americans. But yes, saying you're from the states
sidesteps the issue. (I got schooled on that by a Canadian—very politely, lol—when I was with a group of tourists in the outback of Australia.)

11. So when the other countries curse us "damned Americans", do
the Canadians & others assume they are referring to them? (I hear what you're saying, but I think the US being referred to as America is pretty common worldwide from what I gather.)

12. Does this mean that when people say
"I hate Americans" or "America is hated throughout the world because of GWB" , they are referring to all those who reside on the continent of North America? American is universally understood to mean a resident of the United States. John Roberts is an idiot, but this isn't proof.

28. I heard about him years ago from Florida posters on another message board
who discussed his killing a guy after attending a football game, and driving home, anyway, and never getting into any real trouble.

Just did a quick search to see if I could find anything to back it up:

Rick Sanchez was on local tv (Fox) in Miami before he went national. He hit and killed a pedestrian with his car, but never did any time.

First of all, Rick Sanchez was a Pro Player Stadium, left intoxicated, and hit a teenager who became paralyzed. I do not know that this teen died and I live near the stadium….I remember for years after that, there were flyers all over Miami regarding this kid and a court case.

That’s a huge croc!! I’m in Miami 30 years and my family for 50….and Rick Sanchez isn’t one of the good ones; he is not a *giving* person in the life. He thinks he is above the law (that poor teenager he hit by Pro Player Stadium nearly 10 years ago while HE-Rick-was intoxicated leaving a football game and wasn’t truly prosecuted).....

Why won't those mean, old, sniping critics just quiet down?

I mean, it's not like Sanchez ever killed anybody. At least not intentionally. In 1990, he accidentally (and, yes, drunkenly) ran his brand-new Volvo into a fan after a Dolphins' football game in the parking lot of what was then called Joe Robbie Stadium. The victim, Jeffrey Smuzinick, was paralyzed and later died at the age of 35 of complications related to his injuries. Sanchez was never charged with causing the accident (Smuzinick was also drunk) and ultimately pleaded no contest to DUI.

29. Rick's a blithering idjit. He sobbed on sL-IMUS about being an exiled Cuban
I used to keep an e-file on him of articles & examples of his stupidity, but it got lost & all I've got left is the item below. Last year he let himself be tasered on air & then collapsed yelling ow-ow-ow like somebody else we know.

There was a wonderful, snarky article that catalogged a whole gallery of his goofs. And yet what does it say that Aaron BROWN was taken off the air & still can't get a job and Rick floats all over from MSRNC to CNN to local and back again without any trouble?

See, Judi, except for Hugo & Fidel, we really *are* on the same side!!1

.... Swarthy, preternaturally tan male: And I'm Rick Sanchez. A weekly newspaper in Miami is speculating that… let me see if I've got this right… that I, WSVN anchor Rick Sanchez, am a secret agent agitating for Castro's Cuba. ....
Cafiero: That's right, Rick. ... Critics of your sensational broadcasting style are claiming you are, in large part, responsible for the civic unrest that followed the removal of Elián Gonzalez from the home of his relatives in Little Havana. Those disturbances, you may recall, served to weaken the position of Miami's exile community while strengthening Fidel Castro's iron grip on power.

Sanchez : Ah… wait a second here, Carmel. You just used the word sensational. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean good? ....

Cafiero: Not in this context, Rick. You see, a close examination of your performance over the course of the Elián saga reveals your reporting helped make the entire Cuban-exile community appear ridiculous. ....

Rick Sanchez: Your boyfriend is Rush Limbaugh.

He has gone on record as being somewhat of a proponent of gay rights. And since that is near and dear to me, he gets a few brownie points.

Otherwise.... Well.... I certainly can understand where you're coming from.

27. No Canadians are not Americans. We are Canadians. American is the
term for people of the USA. Many in Canada would consider it an insult to be called Americans. If one follows your logic then people of Argentina are Americans too.

30. According to some, they are. But I don't buy it either.
I just spent four (school) years living in Canada and I know Canadians definitely don't think of themselves as Americans. Here's how I see it: we may all be from "the Americas", but only one country in this hemisphere has the word "America" in its name. That's the USA, so we are called Americans.

As for my Peruvian associate who said we should call ourselves "United Statesians", I said then people would ask "United States of America" or "United States of Mexico"? Saying "American" and "Mexican" clears that up right away. I'm happy with the current terminology.
