If you want to see my great uncle's page, in the search engine type: Johnson, Bruce, Tennessee. His name comes up in two places...one in the log for the cemetery where he's buried (Normandy), and one in the National Archives.

Do you have a relative or friend who served? I'll bet their name is here. BTW, if you have someone in your family, or if you contributed to WWII's success, (even if you/he/she weren't in the military), you can have YOUR name as part of the National WWII Memorial. 4. hmmm, certainly NOT complete

My father went in at Utah Beach, Normandy, fought on the western front of the Battle of the Bulge, one of the first units into Germany, company was first to enter Berchtesgarten(?) Hitlers Bavarian retreat, wound up in Austria facing the Russians. He's not in there. My uncle was captured in Manilla and SURVIVED the Bataan Death March, a cousin survived Pearl Harbor and two other major Pacific naval battles...neither are on there. Something seems distinctly fishy.

6. Did you hunt them by the place they lived when they

were first deployed? Some names are missing, and there is a link where you can go to download a form to send them to make sure the name is included.

Also, there is an "advanced search" option that might help out. When I first heard about this, I simply typed in my great uncle's name, and there it was. Perhaps because he was KIA and is buried at one of the military cemeteries.

I hope you can find them. On the other thread, a poster said that he/she found their father.

But I'll bet the initial database is taken from the graveyards.

I ran down my grandfather's records quite awhile back, and some were missing, due to fire. I doubt if the government has complete records in any one database. I think it's going to be up to family members to check to see if their people are listed, and if not, submit the info.

If you know of any online genealogists you should pass the information on. THEN you'll start seeing this database grow. I'll fire it on to my family lists and I'm sure it will move on from there.

Do you have his company number? I don't have my dad's and I doubt that my mother would know at this point.

Register your father yourself....I just registered mine because he was not there. He died in 1967.

If not, try putting in his name without a "state" or the state in which he was born. I think that's how it's listed, after searching the National Archives...birth place.

He originally joined as a mechanic. I guess he was sleeping when it happened and the impact of the bombs sent him flying out of his bunk and down some steps.

Small wonder why I spit on the J Edgar Hoover Building every time I walk past it. Hoover was not only paranoid, batshit crazy and borderline racist, he also distrusted foreign double agents. I learned later in life Pearl Harbor happened in part to Hoover dismissal of Dusko Popov's summer of '41 warning about an "imminent attack on a US Naval base in the winter". It's all in DC's own Spy Museum.

It's because of Hoover's bullshit that 2,350 men lost their lives. Had grandpa been in the wrong place at the wrong time, he would have been one of them and I wouldn't be writing this.

72. I'd love to know who listed my great uncle, the date of his death is wrong.

He died on the HMT Rohna along w/ 1,115 other men, and 900 others survived. It was Nov.26, 1943. They have it at Nov.27th. I hope it was a typo because if one of the survivors that knew him, put it in, then he died in the water, and I've heard HORRIFIC stories from some of the survivors about being in the water.

Man, have they just botched up everything about these poor people. It took this govt. 57 YEARS to acknowledge these people and their service and STILL, another thing doesn't match up.

I e-mailed him the link and called him. There's a woman writing a book on the eight Hilbert brothers, and Dad's going to see if she can fill out the forms, since she has copies of all eight's service records and can make it right.
