So are we to believe that they store the Nukes with the non-Nukes?
In the piece by WAPO, they state this:

<snip>
A simple error in a missile storage room led to missteps at every turn, as ground crews failed to notice the warheads, and as security teams and flight crew members failed to provide adequate oversight and check the cargo thoroughly. An elaborate nuclear safeguard system, nurtured during the Cold War and infused with rigorous accounting and command procedures, was utterly debased, the investigation's early results show. <end snip>
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20926465/

A simple error? OK--- so let's get this straight. The ground crew walks into the storage facility, and grabs what they thought were conventional weapons..................What kind of storage facility was it? You mean to tell me that they mix conventional weapons with Nukes?

Why?

Shouldn't there be a er Nuke warehouse that would be heavily guarded with all kinds of sing out systems, etc. This makes absolutely no sense.

3. More from the same piece:
<snip> "Some Air Force veterans say the base's officers made an egregious mistake in allowing nuclear-warhead-equipped missiles and unarmed missiles to be stored in the same bunker, a practice that a spokesman last week confirmed is ROUTINE."

4. Here's another paragraph that pegged my Bullshit meter:

A munitions custodian officer is supposed to keep track of the nuclear warheads. In the case of cruise missiles, a stamp-size window on the missile's frame allows workers to peer inside to check whether the warheads within are silver. In many cases, a red ribbon or marker attached to the missile serves as an additional warning. Finally, before the missiles are moved, two-man teams are supposed to look at check sheets, bar codes and serial numbers denoting whether the missiles are armed.

So we are to believe that the only difference between a nuclear cruise missile and a dummy is the color of the warhead as see though a "stamp-sized window"??? And the the red tag is only there "In many cases"????

Can't you just hear it now?:

"We were going to attack the Iranian enrichment site with conventional warheads, but a nuclear warhead was loaded by mistake. A full investigation will be forthcoming."

5. story stinks
they can't come up with a viable cover story because thisjust isn't an area where 'human error' and 'sloppiness' can legitimately be blamed

either there was something afoot, or the professional military people in charge have been replaced by regents univ. zombies

8. Is there any wonder why people don't believe in global warming?
No matter what facts are presented to people, they refuse to accept them. This is just another example that's sure to be the basis for about a hundred more threads of conspiracy theories.

If we don't believe this bullshit trial-balloon cover story, we might as well deny global warming?

You've already made up your mind and nothing will change that. My facts, your facts, you have your conclusion and now you're building the case to support it.

17. I worked in a nuclear weapons unit for almost 4 years
I've seen a lot of crazy shit. To me, this is not something outside the realm of possibility. But to the subject matter experts like you, this could never happen. Most of the people doing work at these places are kids in their late teens or early twenties, not rocket scientists.

21. Operation Mockingbird and the article's author Walter Pincus...
In 1977, Rolling Stone alleged that one of the most important journalists under the control of Operation Mockingbird was Joseph Alsop, whose articles appeared in over 300 different newspapers. Other journalists alleged by Rolling Stone Magazine to have been willing to promote the views of the CIA included Stewart Alsop (New York Herald Tribune), Ben Bradlee (Newsweek), James Reston (New York Times), Charles Douglas Jackson (Time Magazine), Walter Pincus (Washington Post), William C. Baggs (The Miami News), Herb Gold (The Miami News) and Charles Bartlett (Chattanooga Times). According to Nina Burleigh (A Very Private Woman), these journalists sometimes wrote articles that were commissioned by Frank Wisner. The CIA also provided them with classified information to help them with their work.
