The DU 1st Qtr fundraiser with "hearts" reminds me of unpleasant
feelings going back to middle/high school. Who is popular, who is liked the most, why not me? Feeling left out, not appreciated and so on.

I appreciate the sentiment in giving the hearts, but I believe many deserving DU'ers are left out and just might be hurt.

Just a scrambled thought, no offense intended.

2. I'm not a fan of it either. I think popularity contests are stupid.
I'm pretty sure where one of my hearts came from, but I don't know where the hell my other two came from. I know it's not my GF, because we're not buying hearts for each other.

4. Many of us agree.
It sort of depends on if you are in a "group" here. Like supporters of a candidate, that kind of thing. Those of us who post controversial things know we won't be getting many.

:hi:

I would give you one but I donated last month.

5. It's generally harmless and helps raise much needed funds.
so I'm okay with it. It doesn't bother me if somebody has 42 hearts and I only have the one I got for donating.

People form friendships with each other that have nothing to do with me. So what?

14. I feel like the last kid picked for softball
I think I got two pity hearts last year :)

And I'm thankful for them, but I think I mentioned the last time that the DU should slap a heart on EACH person along with that tag, so no one looks like a leper, sort of Prime The Pump kind of thing, might even get folks to donate more..

I also wish the hearts had messages in them, like "CHENEY - THE OTHER WHITE MEAT", slogans and such :)

But I DO look forward to it, even though I get, as I said, pity hearts.. hey, I know, my wife and I can donate and give EACH OTHER Hearts for a valentines present, there you go :)

18. Hey there Symbolman! No pity hearts for you, but lots of love coming
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 04:32 AM by Decruiter
your way to you and to yours.

I am so glad you responded to this post. I was looking for a flash animation you did prior to the beginning of this long national nightmare just this very evening in the last couple of hours.

You had a flash of Iraqi's living their lives prior to the "Shock and Awe" campaign while "What a Wonderful World" played. I shared it way back then with many, it was incredibly powerful and I've never forgotten it. It replays in my mind all the time.

Would you please re - release it. I went to TBTM.com and tried to access it and it would not play for me.

I think it would be very much appreciated around here at DU and other sites on this very sad anniversary coming up in March.

This flash of yours was a celebration of life and would be greatly appreciated now coming up on February 15th, the day people around the world walked the streets (15 to 30 million, give or take a few). We all shook the world that day and your flash was a very moving documentary for us all then and now.

Thanks so much for you, your talent, your passion and your family. If I had the finances you'd be one of the many DU'ers I'd give many hearts to with absolutely no pity involved, just loving gratitude.

And here is a heart to everyone here tonight, tomorrow and for the rest of all our days.

Peace

21. Somehow that just doesn't seem quite right, actually rather sad.
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 04:07 AM by Decruiter
I should just buy myself a few hearts so I look to be well liked, loved, respected. hmmmm.........

I guess that may be what I was addressing in my OP.

Lots of folks around here would probably like to give hearts, they just can't afford to even donate (which is the rather sad position we find ourselves in). Which is what I spoke of in my op, Valentine's Day and the giving of "Valentine hearts". the receiving of or lack thereof can bring not so nice feelings about for a multitude of different reasons.

Peace

I kinda agreed. Then someone started a thread where all the "heartless" gathered and just about every single person wound up being given a heart, even against their will.

I must say mine came as a pleasant surprise since I have barely posted for over 6 months. :)

I just wanted to let you know, I didn't just post 'done' and move on. You're still in my prayers and thoughts.

And now we each have an additional heart to add to our 'original equipment.'

Please know, that for whatever it is worth, someone, 'over here', is sitting here thinking of you and hoping for you that things will get better in your life.

27. and each heart you gave how did you feel. forget about receiving
the joy and good feel for me has been holding my hearts to come upon a person that feels the want of a heart and to give.

last year doing this as the week progressed and hearts became more evenly distributed left the whole board aglow i love. it was a thing to behold. and it wasnt in the receiving....

i think it is a fun little thing to do for our fellow duers

42. Those who don't have a heart yet may be feeling a little hurt
and knowing everyone is making an effort to give everyone a heart won't help them much. If I thought I got a heart because everyone was just trying to give one to everyone I would think, gee thanks.:eyes:
Everyone gets a trophy just for participating. Inevitably there are going to be people who don't get a heart because DU has 100,000 members.

52. well i have followed two threads of people receiving hearts and every response
in receiving a heart were people feeling good, a joy, a smile. so.... respectfully you may be the only one that may have rolled your eyes with that. i was giving hearts to people before the threads, and the excitement of receiving without asking was their. and i felt good giving. and each person on those two threads felt good giving their hearts

you really want to make those good feelings less, or bask in the glow?

finding it hard to see those without one.

Second of all, If someone on an anonymous online message board is actually going to have hurt feelings from not receiving a heart; well, then, I don't know what to say other than that they probably should do some serious self inflection.

:( We're supposed to pretend it doesn't bother us, just because it's fine with others.

As an offset to that, I'd like to point out this very beautiful post... I think it says so much about how we could actually conduct ourselves, rather than putting some above others, and telling those who are hurt to "get over it".
