1. I think this is another scare tactic

It serves as a way to try to shut up critics of the present war and distract the public from the debacle. "Don't look at Iraq--we have to stay there or else Iran will control everything". They will continue to insist that military force is the only tool we have to use, and in the process will only make things worse.
