(Republican) Lee Greenwood* cancels concert honoring vets
Wed Sep 19, 11:09 PM ET
Country music singer Lee Greenwood, best known for his patriotic anthem "God Bless the USA," refused to take the stage for a concert honoring veterans, police and firefighters in a dispute over his payment.

Greenwood canceled as headliner for a concert Saturday that followed the "Colorado State Parade of Honor" in downtown Denver after the organizer couldn't come up with $20,000 cash or cashier's check required by the contract, his manager said.

<snip>

Frank Young, who organized the parade and concert, said he had wired $14,000 of Greenwood's fee in advance and had $4,000 in cash to give the musician's road manager the day of the show.

<snip>

"This is disgraceful," Young said.

1. Greenwood is a typical Republican.
He "honors" vets as long as it is financially lucrative for him. Republicans in general "honor" vets as long as it doesn't cost them any money, and especially if they can make a buck through their "show" of "support". A bunch of money-grubbing phonies!

2. I think the event planner's assessment of Greenwood's actions was spot-on: "Disgraceful."

5. I bet Hanitty will report on this today
or NOT. I'd "thank my lucky stars" if I wrote a lame little song in the 70's and people were still willing to pay anything to hear me sing it.

8. Never.
He will never dump on Greenwood just as he never said anything about Sara Evans divorce from her husband over her alleged several affairs with her band members. He had her and her husband on his show last year just praising them up and down saying how they were such good Americans. She was headlining his freedom concerts last year but not a word from her this year. As with Greenwood, it`s all about the money with Hannity also. He is not doing these concerts all over the country for free.

20. I remember that...
I was driving home from NoLa and I heard that entire Hannity show. He was just gushing over them. He just was in awe of their marriage and her hooters (at least it sounded that way.)

I thought it was a little weird at the time. A couple of months later... D.I.V.O.R.C.E.

I do recall that it was the hubby's Craig's List-searching-for-3-ways-and-anal-sex hobby that was the reason for the split. I felt kinda bad for her. I used to think she was a kinda nasally singer, but she got better. It doesn't get much better (C&W anyway) than "Suds in the Bucket."

12. For 2 Gs...
He needs to change the lyrics to "God bless the USA" to "In God we trust". Having worked with bands and the cash and carry world they live in, I think there's more to this story...like bounced checks or other "perks" not delivered. But then this dude hasn't had anything close to a hit in 20 plus years...so maybe he did need the 2Gs. I wonder if Billy Ray Cyrus is available. :rofl:

get the lace outta yer panties and play for the men and women in uniform for free! I have always hated LG and his faux patriotism so maybe this will finish his career for good. Like all pugs it is all about the money. Why does Lee Greenwood hate America's troops?

15. I will never again go to another concert by this One Hit Wonder.
Before the 2004 election, my husband and I went to Silver Springs, FL to a Lee Greenwood concert billed to honor ALL veterans and active duty troops. At first it was very nice and patriotic and really was honoring the men and women of all branches of the armed services. Then it quickly changed to a political rally. First, Mel Martinez was introduced and since he was running for the Senate, he gave a campaign speech.Then it went from bad to worse because they starting campaigning for georgie boy. Of course there was lots of clapping by the repukes in the audience but this area is definitely Republican Hell. As soon as I came home, I wrote to Martinez and to Greenwood telling them I paid good money to atttend a concert and not a political rally. As far as I am concerned, Greenwood is a greedy little bastard and Martinez is a political hack who will do only what bush tells him to do. Guess I'm stuck with him as one of my senators until 2010 when, hopefully, he will be defeated for reelection.

It sounds like you and other people in attendance became a captive audience. Sorry that happened to you, spartan. :pals:

18. If he was a true patriot he would have done the concert free
When you see all this crap about CW stars and people like Toby Keith jumping around on stage in army fatigues "pretending" they are patriotic Americans is makes you sick.

You have the republicans bashing the "Hollywood Types" as they call them and guess what. These Hollywood entertainers donate their time and services to the military, they don't require payment up front to perform for our military.

But still the run and hide republicans wear the ribbons and spew the crap about them being patriotic. And don't forget, they report the troops. Right.

21. Demanding Someone Honor Their Contract Is Fair Game
Jerry Bentley, Greenwood's Nashville, Tenn.-based manager, said Greenwood canceled his appearance after the concert organizer paid $10,000 in advance but offered only $2,000 in cash and a $2,000 personal check on the day of the show.

Frank Young, who organized the parade and concert, said he had wired $14,000 of Greenwood's fee in advance and had $4,000 in cash to give the musician's road manager the day of the show.

"Mr. Bentley's facts are far from the truth," he said.

Young said he wanted to pay the remaining $2,000 with a check from the Knights of Columbus, one of four groups that agreed to pay for blocks of tickets to help finance the show.

Either way, it still violates the contract.

Performing people in the entertainment industry are hit on all the time, and get played to compromise themselves at the risk of their careers or reputations. That's a huge part of why there is so much drug abuse, IMO. I have every respect for performers who insist the people they contract with follow through on their promises.
