Iran and Syria work together developing deadly WMDs to wipe out USA
http://newsfromrussia.com/world/americas/19-09-2007/97351-iran_syria_wmd-0

Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in a Jane's Defence Weekly report that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.

According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.

Reports of the accident were circulated at the time; however, no details were released by the Syrian government, and there were no hints of an Iranian connection.

The report comes on the heels of criticism leveled by the Syrians at the United States, accusing it of spreading "false" claims of Syrian nuclear activity and cooperation with North Korea to excuse an alleged Israeli air incursion over the country this month.

1. I gotta say, this is a pretty fairly low-key propaganda war.
Usually our propaganda involves all the pundits outright demanding war and the President making explicit "we will invade if you do not X" statements etc. etc. It usually doesn't involve Pravda, which is not only not American, but is also about as accurate as the Weekly World News.

Here are a few more examples of fine Pravda reporting:

"Ten-year-old Russian indigo boy predicted future and cured diseases"

"Top 5 reasons for governments to keep UFOs in secret"
http://english.pravda.ru/science/mysteries/10-09-2007/96923-ufo_secret-0

"People communicate with ghosts during sleep"

"Lake monster terrifies villagers in Ukraine"

5. I'm guessing they're "exposing" an event they made up to sell papers.
When I was in China, little paranoid newspapers would do the same thing--every week, you'd see a new paper on cheap rag, claiming new evidence of American plans to invade the mainland or some shit.

7. To say Pravda has "some credibility problems"
is like saying the Hindenburg may have been uncomfortably warm.

Note the doublespeak:
"Israel has the right to self-defense, and that includes offensive operations..."

9. Four hits in a month, two of which
are referencing one speech given by one ex-diplomat, and two of which are liberal sites warning about a possible attack, do not a propaganda campaign make.

See, http://www.afsi.org/OUTPOST/97JUL-AUG/julaug7.htm

However, there has been no solid confirmation that the airstrikes described ever even happened. The JPost has been particularly coy about it, claiming Israel and Syria are keeping the whole thing hush-hush. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1189411415216&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

11. Its all turning into the claok and dagger stuff that was the cold war
kind of interesting really. problem is... if syria and israel escalate it...iran will get into it which means we get into it and if that happens then possibly russia, china, and whoever else. theres a chance for a big snowball effect. lets just hope that midget leader of iran doesnt get nuclear capabilities before whtever hellstorm there breaks out.

12. We survived the Cold War. Israel will learn to live with Iran's bomb, too.

Time for everyone, including Cheney and the Israelis, to grow up and start playing an intelligent game of deterrence, again. The threat of preemptive attacks never did anything but spark larger wars.

Thank gawd this crew wasn't in charge during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We'd all be extinct or atomic mutants.
