When Joe Lieberman was running for office, he loved him some habeas corpus. Was fond of waxing rhapsodic about its importance. And just before the election last year, in September Joe voted “yea” on the Specter Amendment to the Military Commissions Act, which which would have pulled the habeas language out of the Act and restored it.

Because nobody wanted to restore habeas more than Joe, you know.
That bill had no chance of passing, a symbolic vote like so many other upon which Lieberman’s reputation for being a “good liberal on everything but the war” rests.

Today, only three votes shy of restoring habeas, Joe voted “nay.”
