Appearing in S.C., Weathervane McCain nows says it's "well-known" that he is a BAPTIST
Is he cracking up?

=====

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who has long identified himself as an Episcopalian, said this weekend that he is a Baptist and has been for years. Campaigning in this conservative, predominantly Baptist state, McCain called himself a Baptist when speaking to reporters Sunday and noted that he and his family have been members of the North Phoenix Baptist Church in his home state of Arizona for more than 15 years.

"It's well known because I'm an active member of the church," the Arizona senator said. While McCain has long talked about his family's and his own attendance at the Arizona church, he appears to have consistently referred to himself as Episcopalian in media reports.

In a June interview with McClatchy Newspapers, the senator said his wife and two of their children have been baptized in the Arizona Baptist church, but he had not. "I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs," he said. He told McClatchy he found the Baptist church more fulfilling than the Episcopalian church, but still referred to himself as an Episcopalian. The Associated Press asked McCain on Saturday how his Episcopal faith plays a role in his campaign and life. McCain grew up Episcopalian and attended an Episcopal high school in Alexandria, Va.

"It plays a role in my life. By the way, I'm not Episcopalian. I'm Baptist," McCain said. "Do I advertise my faith? Do I talk about it all the time? No."

6. He's really outdoing himself, isn't he.
My greatuncles favored the phrase "crazy as a shithouse rat."

McCain's campaign returns me to those halcyon days of childhood in my greatuncles' company.

3. as someone said in another thread today
it's to the point where you just feel sorry for him

he WAS a war hero, DID endure years as a POW, put up with a lot, and then served well for a long tims. Now he needs to be shuffled off to a home somewhere.

9. LOL! How craven is it to ditch your religious affiliation and convictions
for political gain? He is now officially worse than Romney--and that takes some doing.

8. I was raised in a Southern Baptist church, and I couldn't wait
to get the hell out of there! Deacons telling us youth that we would burn in hell for drinking or any damned thing, then they would be spotted at nightclubs drunker than who shit in the floor! :crazy: I noticed all of their bullshit when I was a young teen, but had to wait until I was 18 to tell my parents that I was done. I would only attend weddings and funerals, and if they wanted to kick me out of the house, so be it.

I hope that he thinks that is gonna be a good thing for him. My mother who forced me to attend church had a change of heart and is now an Episcopalian, and has been for 2 decades!
