Why bash hippies ?
I hear all these similarities between Vietnam and this Insane Iraq occupation .

The only thing similar is both were illegal wars where many innocent people died and both were based on lies .

As far as Hippies and protests go and anti-war groups , during the 60's we had a generation conflict but not a divided country . The so called Yippies or beat generation did not take the Hippies serious until we actually helped to end the war and it took time . Yes we went a bit to far with the drug scene but the youth of that time were involved and many still are .

We wanted to break the mold of the 40's and 50's that's all . Now we are right back with all the old time murderous bunch forging on ahead with their decade old plans .

1. Because we are free.
And freedom scares the reich wing.

2. We former hippies are some of the most engaged, well-informed, and
good-hearted people I know. What's wrong with that?

Nuthin'!

11. A lot of hippies (or pseudo-hippies) turned conservative, too.
"Hippy" became identified as a fashion for awhile, I think (quite literally). Some people put it on and took it off again.

Conversely, some 60s conservatives grew up and became liberals.

I think it was about social progress, it scared some people, and those people made their fears into institutions. I'm ever amazed at the uptight "young fogies" parroting old conservative crap on teevee these days.

5. Why bash hippies?
Because it's easier than actually using one's brain to make an original and creative statement.

Ignore the drivel, and keep making waves for peace, and for our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

6. They never left
Imperialism can form anywhere. It existed in England for years (1500-1940something). Before that, there was Spain, The Holy Roman Empire, The Byzantines and Rome. After England there is us. Anytime you have a corner on natural resources, cheap labor and a technologically superior military, you WILL have an empire. There has never been a GOOD empire.

Anyway, why bash hippies? Dissenters always make convenient scapegoats.

8. I wish I would have been one of the "hippies"
protesting the War on Viet Nam. I was too busy in my own little world with boys and babies and other survival situations.

Force of Good Bless their Hippie Hearts! :hippie:

10. Because we are Free and most people only pay lip service to Freedom.
Freedom frightens lots of people.

Because Hippies are Free, they refuse to mimic/validate the sacrifices that others make (time, money, sexuality, personal development etc. etc. etc.) and that makes others doubt their own sacrifices and jealous of those who don't conform.

Hippies are one of the new n-words; everything goes back to the same roots in who and what we really are.

12. I wasn't called a hippie...

till I quit trying to pose as one.

It has more to do with attitude than hair length, bathing frequency, and casual drug use.

They are bashed because they only giggle when they get attacked.

"I did coke and dodged 'Nam ... was I a hippy?"

14. I'm not sure why hippies are bashed.
I'm too young to be a "real" hippie, I guess you could consider me a neo-hippie. I have many friends who are hippies and they are some of the greatest people I know.
