2. Does anyone else here have nightmares about this shit?
I do. I see dead and mutilated bodies in my dreams and Bush's face, arrogant grin in place, flashes in and out ...

8. I do
I have nightmares of being in Iraq. I thought I was the only person not in combat having nightmares. It's not discussed but probably many people are having them.

19. I just have a hard time sleeping at night!
Rev. Yearwood stated what I feel very well.

I just want you to know that I think of you often, and I keep hoping that you and your spouse are okay!

24. Hi tnlefty
Thank you. We're OK.

I look at that beautiful little girl's picture and see her father's face and my heart just breaks

and it's a scene repeated over and over throughout Iraq...every single day. How do people stay whole in the face of so much sorrow?

26. Yeah
Somewhere Over the Rainbow Blues
by Jimi Hendrix

"Oh uh,
I see fingers, hands and shades of faces,
Reachin up and not quite touchin the promised land,
I hear pleas and prayers and a desperate whisper sayin,
Hold on please give us a helpin hand,
Yeah yeah
Way down in the background,
I can see frustrated souls of cities burnin,
And all across the water vapor,
I see weapons barkin out the stamp of death,
And up in the clouds I can imagine UFO's jumpin themselves,
Laughin they sayin,
Those people so uptight, they sure know how to make a mess...."

7. The cold, hard reality of armed conflict.
It is always the civilian base that takes it the hard way.

And it is rarely discussed openly.

12. When my sister-in-law told me that arabs don't love their ;
children, they just raise them up to be bombers; I realized how unworthy of my attention she had become. My wife said " do you truly believe that any mother would not love their child" and I never spoke to her again other than one word answers in passing. What has our country become?

29. i understand ...
your feelings about your SIL- Jedr.-

It has boggled my mind how people can decieve themselves. Maybe it is just too much for her- If she faced the reality that "they" are no different than "us"- it could be more than she can handle.

So she plays the mind game that military trainers have used to over-ride human compassion and empathy.- She puts those who are victims of our actions in a catagory other than "human beings"- They become "fanatics" or "barbarians" or "monsters" or sometimes even "freepers" or "rethugs"..

But the truth is, we are all more alike than any of us want to acknowledge. There is good and bad in each one of us, and the capacity for every emotion known to humanity.

Your SIL may not want to know what she knows (deep down inside)- but until we recognize our connectedness, until we stop lying to ourselves, and stop teaching people to marginalize those they choose to hate or don't see eye to eye with, we will never live in peace.

She's worth your attention, but i understand your frustration.

sorry for the rant.

17. You've posted what has been on my mind for the longest time.
Just a face. That says it all. More than my words could ever do.

I didn't know how to say it. But I feel it. Loss is about something special. Special. It's a word that is more than many people can understand. For so many people there isn't "special". Life just is. It's a thing where you just do it. Just jump in the car. Don't think.

I feel great loss. Loss doesn't go away. Loss is permanent. Loss is to be avoided, not cheered on like a bunch of retarded hillbillies.

I'm sorry but this is something that I feel in my gut. In my core. And I'm absolutely certain how I feel about it. I can use names that might not be "correct". But we don't seem to have a sense of "special" in America. I see it here on DU. When I had loss I found no greater help than those on this forum. In fact I could find almost no help besides this forum. And I am grateful. And I will remember it for the remainder of my life.

I don't think I can post more words and make more sense. You either get "special" or you don't. You either cherish something or you don't. Those who feel loss are empathetic. They don't cheer on death and destruction. They don't like hearing about how "We're kicking ass!".

I stand beside those who have loss.

18. 1 million dead, 2 million refugees, 2 million displaced people, and about 6 million maimed
... assuming a severe injury to death ratio of 6:1 in casualites, which would be a low estimate. That's in a nation of about 25 million people. 11 million out of 25 million. 44%!

Is it an atrocity yet? How long until it's called genocide?

All in the name of politics, I pray we get someone in the white house less interested in political careers and more into taking care of people and our country.

33. Why do they love this war?
I don't get it.

Maybe Bush loves it for his own infamy, and Cheney loves it for the money, and Lieberman loves it because they are slaughtering Muslims, and the media is paid to love it... but the rest, why do they all love it so much?

34. Heartbreaking....k&r
It's all so heartbreaking...If it's affected my own personal life to the point of being dysfunctional at times...I can't imagine how people can go on enduring the losses...There are millions suffering, and we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders...It's too much of a burden.....
I have not been personally touched, but am personally touched. This anguish has no explanation.....

peace~
