Mark Warner confirms Senate run
HELLO VIRGINIA!!!

Mark Warner confirms Senate run
By Aaron Blake
September 13, 2007
Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D) confirmed reports that he will run for Senate in 2008, sending an e-mail to supporters and posting a video to his website Thursday morning.

In the video, Warner says he will formally announce his candidacy after this November’s state legislative elections.

“I’ve decided the way I can contribute most to getting our country back on the right track is to serve in the United States Senate,” Warner said.

With Warner’s entry, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) claims perhaps its biggest recruit of the cycle. Warner will attempt to win the seat of Sen. John Warner (R), who announced his retirement two weeks ago.

1. Yay!
:applause: I like Mark Warner, and surprisingly enough, he's fairly popular even among Shenandoah Valley Republicans (which are a pretty solid breed - you know, the kind who will vote for just about anything with an R after its name). I'll be happy to cast my vote for him! :)

2. Glad to hear this. Not that I don't think that all our political institutions are rotted to the core
but Mark Warner has seemed to me to be a relatively decent pol -- insofar as I don't recall ever hearing anything really negative about him -- and if there is any hope to be had at all of rescuing our Rebublic, it would be nice to have some decent pols in positions of influence.

He's certainly -- afaik -- better than any possible Republican alternative. Whether there are better Dem alternatives, I do not know. All I know -- speaking as an outside observer -- is that it appears that he would be a very strong and credible candidate for this seat.

Thanks for posting this. (k&r)

4. Cool! Being a Minnesotan, I used to only pay cursory attention to Virginia politics.

Actually, it is Virginian Pat Lang's blog that got me to pay more attention -- even before the fascinating Webb/Allen 2006 Senate race.

If he's truly a good guy AND can win the election, then this seems to be a very good thing.

5. The real reason why he's so popular in Virginia..
he straightened out the terrible fiscal mess that George Allen and Jim Gilmore left us in. It was like the proverbial Phoenix from the flames. He'll win in a walk. He's the real deal.
