1. This is the first I've heard of it.
I don't think these kinds of things really have much of an impact unless they are of a longer duration than just a day.

25. They also don't work because no one is willing to risk their job for a political statement
Also, first I heard of it too.

2. No. I'm at work.
The MSM hasn't said anything about it because the majority of people participating are a few politically active people on the internet.

Oh...and I passed a bag checker at Frye's last night and gladly showed him my purchase and receipt...

10. Me, my child and my husband are at home
We purchased what we needed days ago and we are doing the strike-out... I have a vested interest in seeing this war ended, I have a son who has been to Iraq and will probably be going again soon as he is better....

13. I hope the MSM doesn't mention the attempt today.
If they do it will be all about the abject failure of the effort. It was a doomed idea from the beginning, and I'd just rather not have ALL anti-war people and efforts painted with the "look at the crazies" broad brush the media will paint.

22. We have a local foot race on that day...
...and they have small signs all along the route that tell the runners how far/big hill/water stations...but on that day, those signs will be saying something altogether different...thank you freewayblogger!

you'd think the MSM would be all upon such a story - assuming a general strike actually occurred.

21. This was promoted by some radical 9/11 groups. The real events are upcoming
Sept. 14 to Sept. 21. The main event is the Sept. 15 March on Washington, with a gathering at the White House at noon.

28. Baloney! There is nothing "radical" about the groups promoting today's General Strike.
If you go to sites like 911 Blogger and get a feel for who is organizing and supporting today's general strike, you'll see that categorizing them as "radical" is inappropriate and misleading. Many of them are scientists, engineers, university professors, architects, and lawyers. I don't think you can reasonably categorize the members of these groups as "radicals" and it seems to me that support for the truth cuts across a wide range of political sentiments and affiliations.

I also don't think today's effort can be judged to be any less of an event than those planned for the 15th. They're just efforts of different characters. They serve different purposes, and all are needed--very needed. I think we can all agree on the need for actions like these.

19. Fuck it, I'm going to work.
Sucks that I'm so dependent on work. I don't fear jail, I don't fear being mocked in the streets. What I fear is crossing my employer and getting fired. I'll lose everything.

GOD I FUCKING HATE MYSELF!!!

Frankly this is the first I've heard of it.

How about a general strike the day after the 11/08 election if the Democratic candidate doesn't win?

33. The de-Americanizing of America
is sorta like the weather...everybody bitches about it, but nobody does anything about it.

p.s. I stood alone today in my city park...with signs. I didn't get one negative comment, except from the police who told me I had to go

I fear it is too late. Our nation is disinterating at the same rate as the icecap.
