Frederick Of Hollywood Is Not Ronald Reagan
Let me preface my remarks by saying I never voted for Reagan ... The only parallels I see between Frederick of Hollywood and Reagan is that they were both former actors... Whether you agreed with Reagan or not he always had snappy retorts, quick bromides, and handy anecdotes... Without a script Fred is lame and growing up in rural Florida I don't think he even have his "good old boy" shtick down pat...

Ronald Reagan was more vibrant at eighty than Frederick Of Hollywood is at sixty... If this goober is the GOP's savior they are in more trouble than they think they are...

1. You are 100% Correct. Huckabee is closer to the Regan
Personality. No matter what you think of Regan's Policies,
(I think they harmed the country), Regan had this congeniality
quotient that enabled him to accomplish.

Uncle Bubba does not have the Bubba image down pat.

I am a transplanted Southerner.

2. I Don't Get Him
Frederick of Hollywood sucks without a script and he's not a dumb man...After all he's an accomplished trial lawyer...

And it has nothing to do with his politics... I didn't vote for Reagan but I can see how lots of folks found his persona palatable...

4. At least Reagan's fake cowboy act was believable
He had a real ranch and knew how to ride a horse. bush couldn't pull this off, plus his fake Texas accent is just laughable.

I don't think fish mouth fred's fake redneck act is very convincing either - it might make tweety and the other pundits gaga but it won't fool real rednecks.

3. I'll agree.
I was listening to NPR on the way to work the other day. They played some clips of Hillary, Freddy, and Rudy. I heard Hillary first, and cringed. Her delivery was terrible, and she sounded grating. I thought she came off bad. Then they played Freddy, and Rudy. In comparison she sounded great.

My final thoughts were how truly bad Rudy, and Freddy came off live. I also thought that Freddy was sure no Ronnie, not even close. Ronnie despite his actual positions could give you the warm fuzzies. Fred just comes off creepy, and so does Rudy.

6. I Didn't Like Reagan's Mesage But I Admired The Way He Delivered It
Reagan, JFK, and Clinton were the best mass communicator/leaders of my era...

Rudy is not a good public speaker... Mitt Romney sounds like a CEO which he is... Fred Thompson is just boring...

8. I don't see him gaining any new voters for the republicans
He doesn't have the skill of playing to an audience that was innate in Reagan.

The republicans are losing ground quickly with the youth and Latino voters in the US, and I just don't see him as being their solution to this problem.

9. Bottom line: Reagan was a trained actor....
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 11:41 AM by Jade Fox
While no great thespian, Reagan at least had a workman-like command of the craft of acting. The same can't be said of Thompson. This made Reagan the great success he was as a figure-head President.

Thompson is not really even an actor. All his roles have been small and nearly identical. He is more of a minor presence than a true character in the movies he's been in.
