Witnesses said the incident occurred in the Abyad area.
A Syrian military spokesman said that Syrian air defenses then opened fire on the IAF aircraft.
"The Israeli enemy aircraft infiltrated the Arab Syrian territory through the northern border, coming from the Mediterranean, heading toward the eastern region, breaking the sound barrier," the spokesman said. "Air defense units confronted them and forced them to leave. We warn the Israeli enemy government against this flagrant aggressive act, and retain the right to respond in an appropriate way."

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — A Syrian government newspaper accused the U.S. on Saturday of encouraging Israel's reported violation of Syrian airspace by remaining silent on the issue.
"This new Israeli hostile operation was carried out in co-ordination between Washington and Tel Aviv," the Tishrin newspaper said in a front-page editorial. U.S. silence can only be interpreted as an "overt and scandalous encouragement of Israel," it said.
Exiled Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who is based in Syria's capital, Damascus, made similar accusations Saturday, saying the U.S. and Israel were planning hostilities against Syria's neighbours, possibly referring to Iran.
"I believe that America and Israel are up to wars in the region," Mashaal said in an interview with the militant Hezbollah group's Al-Manar television. "Their supposed field has become known, and Syria is not far away from these targets."
