NOT AGAIN
Right now, the U.S. Senate is debating a bill to raise the
minimum wage from $5.15 an hour to $7.25--with no strings
attached. But some senators are once again trying to load the
bill down with business tax breaks and they could act as early
as Wednesday.

Low-wage workers have been at the back of the line long enough.
Tell your senators to pass a clean minimum wage increase now
with no more business hand-outs. Click here to send your
message:

The last time minimum wage workers got a raise was nearly 10
years ago. During that time, businesses have gotten $300
billion in tax breaks from the former Republican-controlled
Congress and the Bush administration.

Now once again, some in the Senate are telling minimum wage
workers to get to the back of the line. They're trying to block
a $2.10-an-hour increase in the minimum wage unless it comes
with even more business tax breaks.

Tell your senators "No." Not again. This time, pass a clean
minimum wage raise. Click here to send your message:

Minimum wage workers have waited nearly 10 years for a raise.
That's an outrage. It's time for a Congress that cares about
working people to move them to the front of the line for action.

Thank you for all your work.

Sincerely,

Working America, AFL-CIO

4. Unions need to start stepping up.
Put the Democrats feet to the fire more. They will not listen if the labor faction doesn't answer back with guns blazing.

11. I just wrote my Senator, Gordon Smith.
I am writing today to ask that you vote for the minimum wage bill as is. I think it is reprehensible that any senator would or could play partisan politics by holding the bill up to increase corporate tax breaks.

To further my position I will include some personal detail. I am not a minimum wage worker. I have an MBA and work a financial professional. But still, I think it is an unadulterated hypocrisy to vote for senate and congressional pay raises ten times in a row while concurrently the minimum wage has been voted down for the last 10 years. For decency's sake, the minimum wage increase is still less than Oregon's min. wage and doesn't fully take effect until 2009.

Like usual I fully expect you to ignore this like all my other bi-monthly writings. Good day to you.
