Watching all those Army/Marines/Navy/Air Force commercials...
and those Anti-smoke ads on the same channel, this really pisses me off.

I've got one thing to say to that damn channel which shows all those commercials...

Joining the military and be sent to Iraq kills you more quickly then smoking!

1. The channel must be shy of advertisers, or they're getting their PSA quota
out of the way all at once. Lots of those Public Service Announcements run free of charge--the military ones, AND the smoking ones.

If the military runs them during sports events, they have to pay--though they do get a decent discount.

2. Believe it or not, the television does not show you ads because it cares about you.

it does not think you will enjoy a Chevy car more than a Toyota, nor does it think you will enjoy the taste of Miller Lite. It does not care if you smoke. It does not care if you join the Army.

It shows ads because people paid the stations to show them. It just so happens that one group of people (who either care about the public health or were made to do so by such people) have made PSAs to show. It also so happens that another group of people (who care about meeting military enlistment goals) have also made PSAs. That's all.
