Bush's Morticians.
In this week’s “The Nation” magazine, Katrina vanden Heuvel tells us that a subsidiary of Service Corporation International (SCI) was paid $12,500 for each body they retrieved in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

SCI is a Houston based company and is the largest owner of funeral parlors and cemeteries in the world. They also are long time, major Bush contributors. So I guess I’m really “shocked” that some of Bush’s corporate cronies profited from the dead of New Orleans.

But there’s more. A couple of years before Katrina, two south Florida cemeteries were found to be dumping dead bodies and coffins in nearby woods, so as to resell plots that were bought, paid for and, in some cases, occupied. Both cemeteries were owned by SCI. There was extensive media coverage in Florida at the time and while there were fines, law suits, and much personal grief for families, no one went to jail. Do you suppose the fact that Jeb Bush was governor at the time is the reason that no criminal charges were filed?

Every time we think we know the degree of the rot in the Bush family, some new stench shows up to show us we have not yet plumbed the true depth of their sewer.

1. Bobby Waltrip goes waaay back with the bushes.
GW opened the gates for them as gov of TX.

There was all kinds of stuff going on and the AG (who happened to be either John Cornyn or Alberto Gonzales - I cannot recall) got SCI off the hook.

3. The Bush family reminds me of the Peacock family on the X-Files
The very creepy episode was called "Home", and this description of the Peacock family in the synopsis says it all:

"They come across the Peacock clan, a local family which years of inbreeding has deformed their bodies and souls into something sub human..."

Here's a quote from Mulder: "What we're witnessing Scully, is undiluted animal behaviour. Mankind absent of it's own creation of civilization, technology and information. Regressed to an almost pre-historic state, obeying only the often savage laws of nature."

4. I wonder if they were also paid to keep their mouths shut
about how many bodies they retrieved. The last thing Bushco wanted was for the Katrina death toll to exceed 9/11. Does anyone know how many people are still unaccounted for?

5. It goes without saying that unbid contracts always imply "shut mouths."
And thanks to the combination of incompetence and corruption of the Bush Reich, I doubt if we'll ever know how many people died in New Orleans. Or perhaps murdered is a more appropriate word. When you have the power to save people, and do nothing, those deaths cannot be attributed to a hurricane.
