Yoko Ono finds eco friendly cars uncomfortable
Washington, Aug. 30 (ANI): Environmentally friendly cars might be popular with Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Leonardo Di Caprio, but they certainly have failed to impress Yoko Ono.

The widow of late Beatle John Lennon feels that environmentally friendly cars are not as comfortable as her Bentley.

She thinks that along with concerns to reduce pollution levels through hybrid vehicles, the manufacturers should also take care of people's comfort.

"Can someone make Hybrid cars as comfortable as a Bentley, please?" Contactmusic quoted her as demanding.

1. I read this earlier and hoped she'd been misquoted/misinterpreted
Otherwise, I can see an entire new generation of Yoko haters emerging (as well as a return to anger of those long since mellowed baby boomers).

Is she really this horrendously narcissistic? John must be rolling over in his grave...

3. She often is
misquoted. And some people simply lie about her.

Two of my nephews, through marriage, work for Yoko. They don't have anything but good to say about her.

5. I don't know if it's fair to call that quote "demanding"
It might be a good idea to make some really high-end environmentally friendly cars to appeal to that market, actually.

As for them not being comfortable, my quite large and somewhat frail elderly father has a Prius and LOVES it and says it's surprisingly comfortable, so I think she's wrong about that, personally. Still, what she said doesn't read like a "demand", does it? Everyone's always out to get Yoko.

group of conceptual artists. Her work then was what, in part, made John fall in love with her. The rest of her crowning achievement has been the quite large underground influence she has had on innovative recording artists, everyone from The B-52s to Garbage to almost everyone playing anything punk-related at South By Southwest. So, no, not irrelevant.

If only Coretta Scott King had had as much poise in the crunch. I guess it's really too much to ask, but I'm glad Yoko had it.

19. What kind of chaos and violence were people planning on launching at Lennon's death.
MLK was a great leader who brought the American Dream to life for America's most downtrodden, clearly his assasination invoked fury. John Lennon is not comparable to that. Who would riot because of his death?

The rest of us and our less-sensitive tushies probably wouldn't notice the difference between a Prius and a Camry. :)

15. What I get from that statement is she wants to do the ecofriendly
thing, but also wants to be comfortable. What's wrong with that? Especially as we get older, cramming into an uncomfortable car is less and less fun. Why shouldn't Bentley be working on an ecofriendly car? All the car manufactures should. The Congress should be mandating it.

25. I don't see why it is too much to ask
Surely they can make a car that is hybrid and comfortable. As someone with tailbone problems, I can't see why this is a deal. Put more padding in the seats or something. The two shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

47. Its not quite the seats that are the problem
Its because alot of cars sit kinda low, and thats what makes it uncomfortable for many people with back problems and such. My Aunt is the same way, she wants a good mpg vehicle but doesn't want a car. So she got a Ford freestyle, which is a pretty decent vehicle for the price and it averages around 26mpg. She cant afford a hybrid.

I like the hybrids but I felt extremely cramped driving both the Civic and the Prius. But there are more expensive, bigger hybrids available, like the Camry Hybrid, the Altima hybrid, and the new Malibu hybrid.

31. Damn...
and I was just starting to not dislike her...

Anyways, that said, maybe she was sitting in the back seat of a Prius? I have no idea. I have never been in a Prius, but I have heard the front is pretty comfortable, but I'd imagine like any other compact the back seat is somewhat cramped.

But there are a lot of Hybrids coming out now (both cars and SUVs), especially by Toyota (including Hybrid Lexuses). If she really did say this, she's being sort of ignorant - there definitely are comfortable hybrids - granted, as an article in the NYT showed with one of the higher end Lexus hybrids, the advantage of a hybrid with regards to great gas mileage is diminished when you have such a large vehicle.

I don't know of a car the size of a Bentley (those things are like tanks), that get 40+ miles per gallon...It's not really practical anyways.

Blowing away the conventional wisdom that hybrid cars are hair dryer-powered eggs on wheels, the 2007 Lexus GS 450h shows that gasoline plus electric can equal breathtaking performance. A powerful V-6 abetted by a high-output permanent-magnet electric motor endows the world's first hot-rod hybrid with 339 horsepower and catapults it from standing to 60 quicker than the new Jaguar XK. But as a full-size, opulently appointed sedan, the 2007 Lexus GS 450h is not a sports car. It is an executive pseudo-eco-mobile aimed squarely at high rollers who want to feel good about their environmental footprints while flying along in the left lane of the highway between conference calls.....

Inside, our test model came with voice-activated GPS navigation with integrated Bluetooth hands-free calling ($1,900), a 16-speaker Mark Levinson audio system ($1,780), heated and ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control, an intuitive park distance sensor, and all manner of comfort settings in which to enjoy our eco-friendly consciences. All told, our tester rang up at $65,794.

Sounds like a wish, not a demand. Demands don't usually include "please".

I have a cushy wagon that gets 25 mpg and a tin car that gets 35 mpg. I drive the tin car mostly, but wish it were cushier. Doesn't mean I don't like it, but it would be nice to have a eco-car be comfortable also, would appeal to more people also.

54. The Problems Of Growing Old...
Keep in mind Yoko is rapidly approaching 70...and never has been the specimin of perfect health. She probably has the aches, pains and other maladies that aging brings. Getting into low to the ground or cramped vehicles can be a problem...just as it is for any elderly person. My wife suffers from arthritis of the hip and even has difficulty sitting comfortably in a full-size car, getting into a Prius or similar compact car are all but impossible for her.

I don't consider this as demeaning as it is concerns for her phyiscal comfort...and that if there was a hybrid full size car that she would use one.
