Uh-Oh...bush proclaims September: National Preparedness Month, 2007
National Preparedness Month, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States

RSS Feed White House News

National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness and to encourage all Americans to better prepare their homes and communities for emergencies.

Protecting America's homeland and citizens is the shared responsibility of the entire Nation. Individuals can prepare themselves and their families for emergencies by taking simple steps such as organizing an emergency supply kit, making a personal preparedness plan, becoming informed about different threats, and getting involved in preparing their community. These activities create a culture of preparedness and can help save lives.

My Administration continues to improve our Nation's ability to prepare for emergencies. The Department of Homeland Security is working with other Federal, State, and local government organizations, as well as the private sector, to prevent, respond to, and recover from all types of emergencies. Together, Americans can significantly enhance the level of national preparedness to further safeguard our communities and secure our homeland.

This month is also an opportunity to pay tribute to America's first responders who put themselves at risk for the safety of their fellow citizens. These brave police officers, firefighters, and emergency service personnel exemplify the compassion and commitment that help strengthen our country. We will be forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.

During National Preparedness Month, I encourage all Americans to get involved in their community's preparedness efforts. Citizens may visit ready.gov and citizencorps.gov to learn more about emergency preparedness and ways to take action.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 2007 as National Preparedness Month. I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the importance of preparing for potential emergencies and to observe this month by participating in appropriate events, activities, and preparedness programs.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.

GEORGE W. BUSH

I got my beer, smokes, and Pet Goat book all ready to go in the event of an attack.

The Republicans have had their panties in a bunch over Craig this past week. x( They were once again distracting the American people away from yet another example of President Numnuts stoopidity. I'm fed up. I'm just done.

I've lurked here for a long time but I couldn't keep my fingers still on this one.

Does this mean he's admitting he hasn't done a damn thing in the past 5 year to prevent a terrorist attack other than to take a pee on the Constitution and edge us toward a police state? Or did he just forget that he's supposed to lie?

ETA: windoe - If that's the best God can do - then there's no possible way good can be 'great and good'.;-)

19. I'd go for tornado, maybe flooding, where you are.
Me ... hurricane and tornado.

I have my propane stove stashed away with spare propane, food, extra batteries, blankets, and a change of clothes, along with jugs for putting water in, etc., etc. Not much, to be honest, but enough for a family of 3 for maybe 10 days, assuming nobody's going to come along and take any away. They say to assume that you'll get no help at all for 3 days in case of a disaster; being prepared for less is being negligent.

At least that's what we were told in Los Angeles when they taught us about earthquake preparedness.

8.  Sounds like a way to accept the troops being deployed in DC
Isn't this part of the plan to prepare them against us . What the hell are we supposed to do , fill up barrels with gasoline and stock up on toxic canned goods from China or are we supposed to be on the lookout for suspicious looking charactors and turn them in at gunpoint .

Yeah , I'm prepared with ten dollars in my wallet and an extra pair of shoes .

Perhaps we are being encouraged to help out the failing home depot and purchase plywood and duct tape and bottled water and some ornage and red paint to make our own warning level signs .

15. First thing he's said correct since I can remember...
I've got a bad feeling that either this month or the next will be really, really bad. The attack on Iran will be followed by financial chaos, shit blowing up in the US, and the imposition of martial law. Of course his proclamation says nothing about the fact that he is the one working to make this disaster happen, but at least it's good advice. Get ready.

16. can I put on my tin foil hat for a moment?
There's a demonstration in DC scheduled for Sept 15th, could this 'white house release' be a way of *perhaps* psyching out people who may wish to participate in this said demonstration? It has been my tinfoiled observation in the past that right before *huge* demonstrations, 'news' and 'information' was leaked everywhere that would definitely scare the average person from showing up at one of these. I have come across pictures I never saw before of B & R's detention camps, new laws that anyone against the war will have their property confiscated, ect. --the timing is uncanny.

17. Now that you mention it,
I remember a story about large weapons being in and around Washington, D.C. right before a large anti-war demonstration. I don't remember details now.
