Weekend Highlights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter Hitchens, The Abolition of Britain: From Churchill to Princess Diana
In this Encore Booknotes from 2000, the author discusses his book with Brian Lamb. Mr. Hitchens believes the current generation of citizens is ignorant of Britain's past and the traditional standards of civility, faith and morality are in rapid decline. Mourning the loss of British reserve, he compares the behaviors exhibited during the funerals of Winston Churchill and Princess Diana. Mr. Hitchens also discusses his brother, writer Christopher Hitchens.
(Saturday 6 PM ET)
Roland Haas, Enter the Past Tense: My Secret Life as a CIA Assassin
Roland Haas talks about his life as a CIA assassin. Recruited right out of college, Mr. Haas spent 30 years with the CIA and worked in many countries, including Germany, Iran, Afghanistan, and India. Mr. Haas is currently a senior intelligence officer with the US Army Reserve Command.
Scott Ritter, Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Antiwar Movement
Scott Ritter is the author of several books, including Iraq Confidential, and served as a US Marine before becoming a weapons inspector for the United Nations. In his latest book, he argues that the antiwar movement in the U.S. should look to military strategists like Sun Tzu and John Boyd to help it end the Iraq War.
(Sunday 9 AM and 7 PM ET)
Kirsten Holmstedt, Band of Sisters: American Women at War in Iraq
In her book, Kirsten Holmstedt chronicles the lives of women serving in combat positions in Iraq. The author interviewed women from all branches of service and focused on the lives of 12 different women.
