Do you think that the CONS will run on the good economy?
I keep hearing them talking about how no one is talking about it and this morning while, watching cspan I kept hearing callers saying that they don't believe the 4.5 percent unemployment. One lady said that the people she knows have been laid off and the people at her job was doing the job of three people.

1. I sincerely hope they try, but I don't think even coservatives are that stupid.
The biggest disconnect in this country is between the blow dried bobbleheads on TV chirping about the great economy and what they're seeing in their daily lives.

I think the cons will campaign on the fact that Osama hasn't killed any of us lately.

3. I guess if this or Iraq isn't working for them they can go to their old...
standbys abortion and tax cuts. I don't see how some people fall for this when they now don't have a job but they will because of their hate for so called liberals.

7. The Bush administrations has been cooking the books over economic numbers
and everyone knows it. People know that the price of everything in the world has gone up exponentially while their wages have remained stagnent. CEOs at large public companies are about the only ones who have bucked this trend and that's because they have no compunction about starving their employees in the name of "productivity" while they gourge themselves at the shareholders trough.

Every single blessed day you read about some company somewhere closing down or outsourcing and/or laying off workers.
The unemployment figures also do not address the people who have dropped off the rolls and the people who, while not unemployed, are UNDER employed (at a job with less income than what they previously had) are OVER employed (working 3 part-time jobs to make a liveable income)

Read Paul Krugman or any sane economist who is not bought and paid for (or by) the current smash and grab gang.

Which are really the only people they talk to anyway.

The only ones who have benefited from this "good" economy are the rich 2%ers, so hopefully all the dumb ass poor people who actually think republicans will help them will wake up.

edit: Also I don't even think the MSM could not comment on how one sided the economic "prosperity" has been.

8. I hope they do -- it will PROVE how out of touch they are
Oh please -- I'm in a red state, and people here are crapping themselves worrying about losing their jobs. Even the freepers get pissed off when they here * talk about this *great* economy. They all ask -- WHERE? It ain't here.

9. They will run on how bad the democrats are
and how the current situation was either Clinton's fault, Carter's fault or the tax and spend democrats fault
or maybe it was Barney the dog who is at fault but it was not Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice or the GOP in congress.

10. The commercial economy
may be relatively healthy, but little is filtering down to joe and jane Sixpack (apologies to the 453 real Sixpack families registered on DU!). Average Americans are being pinched on a nuimber of different fronts--any new benefits coming in are as rapidly consumed in dribs and drabs: gas prices, health care, better schools. When you think about it, most political campaigns mention the economy among their planks, but in reality our modern economy has become far too volatile, and voters know that.
