Talk to me on February 6th, 2008 about an AL Gore run.
Wednesday 2/6/2008. "Dems can't decide."

I that is the headline the day after Tsuanami Tuesday rather than "(choose your candidate) Locks up Dem Nomination)" We are headed fror a brokered convention.

If it is still a 2 or three person race at that point and anger at the "other candidates" us boiling over. Gore could get into the race as an elder statesman. Score a few victories and walk into the convention with momentum and as the consenus choice on the second ballot.

So if you really want Gore to get in the race.......keep you powder dry and if you are in an early primary state vote for whoever is in second or third place. in the polls.

If someone has it locked up before 2-5 he would not get in under any circumstance.

1. The Convention and the voices of half of the country are meaningless
Edited on Sun Aug-26-07 07:37 AM by ThomWV
With the farce that our Primary election process has become about half of the states have little to no voice in who will be nominated and that alone makes the Convention a joke. It is the one time every 4 years that I am truly ashamed of our Party, convention time.

2. I agree. They let us vote to make us think

we have a democracy, but it's really a Potemkin village.

3. i hate to say it but the delegates votes are meaningless now..
everything is a done deal long before the delegates go to the convention..

i know i was a delegate in 2004

it's a four day party...that costs the delegates alot of $$$ if you want to go to any meetings or speeches or anything..there is a price tag for everything!!

one day i spent over $1000.00 to go see dems speak..

at 4 different events..

delegates are now used as PR promoters..to get out the vote..to get people to vote dem..

shaking head here...

i am from a large state...and i will tell you i was the only delegate in my clounty that could affrod to go to the luncheons...and events..most did not go to anything because it was all too expensive for them!

i paid for another delegate to go to emily's list lunch which was $500.00..per person...just so she could go to one event..

$250.00 bucks to go to a "NOCARBS " lunch event..and believe me ..there was barely any food..but we got to meet Gloria Steinem...

there is a price tag for everything..

and from what i understand from other delegates..what is free , isn't worth going to...as our other delegates found out.

Hotel location is more important to your delegation..because the best hotels get the best people coming to it after each night at the convention hall.

oh and the delegates votes???..well you barely hear your name called out and you barely get to say yes or no..to the candidate..it is all pre planned and packaged!

just a little fyi..

5. Thanks, fly. You've confirmed what I have thought. Now...if that's the case...
I don't think Gore will run.

8. if Gore is going to get in ..it will be long before the convention..
he knows the score better than i or you..or any of us..

He knows the cut off dates for the primaries..he is well aware of those facts!!

and i still think he is getting in..

10. That would be interesting if he did..but I think it's all "pre-ordained",if you know what I mean
Do you think Hillary would have thrown her hat in the ring if there was any chance of Gore running?

Just a question....

Thanks for any insight.

6. I had been thinking about being a delegate
but now - I don't think I could afford that. Either monetarily or emotionally.

7. they do set up housing for people with not enough money for hotels..in boston
it was at one of the universities..in the dorms..

but all the events practically cost money..that should not stop you from being a delegate..you can raise money after you win election to be a delegate..but even running a campaign in my state to be a delegate cost me about $3000.00..with fliers and mailings ..pictures ..so people know who they are voting for..each state is different..so check out what you have to do..to become a delegate..

but what most people don't understand..as a delegate you pay for everything yourself..

your flights..your meals..your hotel..etc..the only thing you get is breakfast!! and you must show up at breakfast to get your credentials for each day on the floor..

but the breakfasts are free and people come to the breakfasts to speak..each day..free...

we had Micheal Moore, Ben Affleck, Richard Dryfuss..Jesse Jackson, Max Cleland, Elizabeth Edwards, and many more that i can't think of right now..

and you get to meet some and some not..Micheal Moore was swamped with media..so you could not even get near him..Jessee Jackson stayed at our hotel and came to the bar each night and talked to everyone..he was wonderful..

You also do at your hotel get up close to all your dem congress people and all the serving representatives..so if you want to speak your mind you can.

I wanted to be a delegate because i had just retired from my profession ( of 33 yrs) as a flight crew for one of the 9/11 airlines..i wanted my lost co-workers voice heard..through me..

to my surprise many flight crew from many airlines became delegates..we all felt basically the same..we wanted representation..and we wanted answers..and we demanded answers..

we would have gotten them if Kerry became pres..we all knew that..

i never ran for homeroom queen before i ran for being a delegate..i wish every American could have that experience.

I say go for it..and if you have to campaign for funds as well so you can represent the people where you live..do it!!

there is always housing that is not just at the Hotels..you can always go hang out at the hotels after each night on the floor..

i would say though the only free parties i attended were Planned Parenthood..and Obama's party .but Obama's party you needed an invitation..my whole delegation ( state) were invited.
not all states were ..

but prior to going to convention you can sign up for caucus's..and that gets you invited to stuff you may be interested in..

i signed up for everything so i got invited to everything..

but i know it was difficult one day to get to every event i was going to..so i had to hire a limo to get to everything..the events were so far apart.

I really wanted to represent the people of my county and go to as much as possible..while other delegate from my area..sat in bars..or had nice lunches in boston..

i drove myself crazy trying to go to too much..

if i were to do it again..i wouldn't try to go to so much..i was exhausted..i would pick and choose ..and be more selective of what i went to..

But honestly..where their is a will there is a way..i know delegates that got people ( rich) ..to back them monetairly..they couldn't go to the big luncheons ..but they represented the people where they live...

but if you think the convention is about changing what the party is doing ..forget it..the convention is about whoever the candidate is that won the primary..

Kerry's campaign even got to approve who delegates were going to be ..from my state.

and there are prerequisites...of how many males to females ..and how many blacks and hispanics..and how many gays..and how many this or that...depending on your states makeup...it is very controlled.

I was a complete novice..but i tied with the most votes in the election for delegates!! over many lifelong politicians...( to many of their anger!!)

But i took it very seriously..my agenda was speaking for my co-workers and their families that lost their lives on 9/11..and my neighbors that lost their husbands and wives and children on (/11..i was like a pit bull to get elected!

and i did get my voice and their voice heard!

you can do it ..don't let money stop you from trying to be a delegate.

If i could do it ..so can you!!

Like i said..i never ran for anything in my life..i wasn't even very politically minded before 9/11..i was too busy working and being a mom and wife..but 9/11 changed that for me..in every way.

go for it!! i sincerely wish ..more of us "regular " folks did run..and were representing us!!

i know the last evening one of our top dems in congress sat with me after the convention and i asked her why she nor any dems spoke about PNAC..she had no clue what i was talking about..it made me furious..she asked me to send her the info..i said no ....do your job and find out about it damn it..

we think because they are in congress or the senate that they know all we do..that is a false premise!! i learned...don't assume they know..in fact today..i assume they don't know!! and i make it my mission to make sure they do know ..as i call so much the phone answerers ...know my voice..and they know i mean business..for my state and county.

the secretary of DNC writes me once a week..and she gets info i send to the comittees..that need to know what i am sending them!

anyway..run..do it..even if you have to beg people to support you financially when you go!! do it..

I will continue considering my run for delegate. Best to know what the true costs are up front and what you said above is most helpful. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! (And, Obama better invite me as I am from Illinois!)
