Bay Bridge closed Labor Day weekend.
When was the last time this bridge was closed for this amount of time. I just find it an odd and long weekend for it to close.

1. Same time last year
Apparently Caltrans has data it says indicates that that weekend is actually a light one for Bay Bridge traffic.

when it happened last year, for what that's worth. But I'd love to hear from fellow Bay Area residents about their experiences, if any.

on edit: just to clarify for folks not clicking through the links: The Bay Bridge is currently undergoing seismic retrofit construction and this total closure is to allow a significant part of that construction to proceed.

8. There are, off the top of my head, four other spans that move
people in sort-of the same direction. I know Caltrans is asking people to use the other bridges that weekend. But the Bay Bridge is pretty much the main east-west cross-Bay artery, so there has to be extra clogging at the other crossings.

9. Like you said in earlier, it would be nice to hear some stories of the headaches this will cause.

5. Well, that's because Michiganders panic and race to the north country ...

... to gather their summer toys before the first icy blast of winter destroys them.

San Franciscans have no such panic to get to Tahoe before the first flakes. They are the first flakes.
(Damn... I sure do miss being one of those flakes.)

4. Nicaragua Closes For Easter
I was once visiting a friend in Costa Rica. We wanted to go across the border to Nicaragua on the day before Easter, but it turns out that Nicaragua closes for a day or two that time of year - no border crossings are open - what a weird concept.

(So we snuck in, of course.)

10. Take BART
There are a number of stations you can use to park your car east of the bay and then take the train to SF. You can get around there on SF Muni. I haven't been to the city in years but I wouldn't drive there now. Parking at any of the popular convention tourist or shopping venues is rare expensive and difficult to find. I used to go to the Mac users conference at Moscone Center and the train was by far the best way to go.

A car is a pain in the ass in SF.
