10. Judy H. was a phenom!

She was a Broadway blast, lighting up the boards with her singing, acting and wacky characters before she hit Hollywood. In her real life, she was much more down to earth than the ditsy blonds she played, but she died far too young of lung cancer. If you hear her sing, she's amazing. Quite a range, and also had a depth of character. Where are our Judy Hollidays of today...? It seems HOllywood is full of brainless trash. There are many treasures on Broadway today (Audra McDonald, and Edina Menzel for example) I hope they don't fall in the cesspool of Hollywood.

11. What I got from the OP

They were watching TCM which was featuring movies starring Judy Holliday. The day before they had shown movies featuring Reagan.

At the time the post was made the scene was the one where Judy's character was at the Jefferson Memorial (which corresponds to an important plot point of the movie). And the OP was enjoying that scene and encouraging others to tune in to see it. In the alternative, by posting the OP, more people might become aware of this pretty interesting movie thereby appreciating either the theme of the movie (or that particular segment of it) or the actors (with Holliday in particular).

I didn't take anything beyond these points from the OP.

9. I Love Judy Holliday!

I have loved Judy Holliday and her funny, sincere, nervous intelligence for most of my life. There have been a couple of biographies on her and at least one excerpt that ended up not being published, all during the 1970s, but nothing recent that I am aware of. There should be again. Thank God for Turner Classic Movies, which is now just about the only place where you can find any of these great people (also just had a great tribute to Jane Fonda, with "On Golden Pond," "Private Screenings" etc.), before the "corporate mind-control" era. My favorite Judy Holliday movie was the brilliant comedy/tragedy by Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin, "The Marrying Kind," about the deteriorating marriage that may or may not survive. "Born Yesterday" was a great study of a violent, ruthless, totally corrupt capitalist who is destroying the legislative process by bribery and threat--they actually used to be against that then.
