Majority Leader Hoyer Responds President Bush’s Iraq Speech
August 22nd, 2007 by Jesse Lee

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer released the following statement today following President Bush’s speech on Iraq:

“President Bush attempted again today to draw parallels between Iraq and past wars to earn support for his policy in Iraq. Unfortunately, the President seems only to look at what reinforces his failing strategy rather than draw the most important lessons from past conflicts.

“The President’s escalation only works if the Iraqi government uses the breathing space created by American soldiers’ sweat and blood to meet the political goals that are essential to creating a stable nation. Six months into the surge, the Maliki government has not done so, and even the Bush Administration is expressing doubts that they will move forward.

“If anything, an examination of history and the situation on the ground shows us the importance of creating a new direction in Iraq. We must initiate a strategic redeployment from Iraq so that we may focus our resources on the greatest danger - the war on terror - rather than keep our military mired in Iraq’s sectarian war.”

4. The "war on terror" is a myth
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 12:25 PM by SoonerPride
Decent police work can fix that problem. It is not an army, but a rag tag collection of malcontents. Using a slegehammer to swat at flies rarely works. Too cumbersome and slow and lots of broken things in your living room. And the flies almost always escapes anyway.

We don't need to redeploy the troops anywhere.

Bring them home.

Period.

We are talking about something that was a made up bunch of meaningless words. However, what are the Democrats talking about? Fighting the "war on terror" that does not exist, that never existed and even if if did it cannot possibly be brought to a successful conclusion. But the pugs have once again framed the debate sculpted out of shit to keep the country (Dems included)occupied with chasing a shadow.

5. There's Something Vaguely Familiar With Steny's Comments And......
Hillary saying something about "preparing to fight the new war".

Could this be the Dems new talking point when they come back from recess?

6. Yeah, thanks Hoyer. Talk comes so easy, doesn't it? It's acting on it that's the problem!
You Dems can talk the talk, but you don't walk the walk.

Do something to put an end to it. No more funding. The Dems control what goes to the floor, NO MORE IRAQ funding on the floor. Period. Fund the withdrawal and that's it.

Then put impeachment on the table, update and pass the Fairness Doctrine so the propaganda we've been putting up with won't continue, have Condi and Harriet and all the others who've ignored subpoenas forcible brought in to testify, and then you're talking about action.

Until then, it's all just a bunch of words.

All hat, no cattle, as they say.

7. If we take our troops out of I-wreck, there will be more money for the defense industrial complex.
Heavy on sarcasm.
