This President is a "give me an inch and I'll take a mile" kind of guy. Today he launched the campaign to beat down the out of Iraq folks in anticipation of the Patraeus report in early September. I can feel our democratic candidates and congressional leaders begin to squirm and look for outs because they know what's coming. Backing down on Iraq, aside from being a complete travesty, will be an invitation to Bush to attack Iran. He'll do it because he knows he can get away with it. His whole speech today screamed "American imperialism works if we just keep at it".

2. I agree with the sentiment. But how would he fund it?
That one has me a bit baffled.

By the way, I'm glad to see you here. Have a hug from me.

5. Surely You Jest?
If past be prologue, Congress will hand it over by the flat load.

7. And we keep borrowing from China?
That's not a solution, but a growing problem.

8. Hell, They Don't Care Where They Get It
Just so long as they can fork it over and we get stuck paying for it, one way or the other.

3. The risk of a
US attack on Iran grows greater, not less, I fear.

And any apparent gains from their propaganda (psywar) campaigns will only encourage the neocons.

The neocons believe that they can sell pretty-much anything* to the average sucker (or, at least, to enough suckers so that it makes a difference). And since the neocons previously have had great success gulling the gullible, any glimmer of hope that this be done again successfully will be greeted enthusiastically -- and pursued relentlessly.

Many neocons seem to believe that "victory" in Iraq can only be had by "taking out" ("democratizing") Iran. And some seem to have convinced themselves -- despite the evident failure of "democratization" in Iraq, involving the costly, long-term use of much larger forces -- that it'll only take a "little" bombing to acheive their ends.

It's the Iraq fantasy all over again -- only on a larger scale -- and using even less resources.

This is a very dangerous and stupid type of "thinking", but if the people can't resist being manipulated at this late date, when all but the most brain-dead should recognize how they're being played -- then it's pretty hopeless.

Weakness and wavering in the face of neocon attacks is not only inutile -- it's grave folly... and aiding and abetting.

*: Normally, the neocons appeal to the dark side: fear, greed, hate, bigotries, selfishness, etc. But they often do so under the cover of "principle" and "religious beliefs".

However, even the devil can quote scripture to his purpose.

4. I agree.
I thought his attempt to bring Vietnam and Cambodia into the discussion was to justify in advance the plans for this fall.

6. I'm printing and mailing Scott Ritter column to my DEM reps
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20070821_why_cheney_really_is_that_bad/ Want them to know I am not interested in supporting gutless, junta-enablers. If they want support, they need to stand up to cheney/bush NOW and forever.

No point in email. It gets filtered into the junk mail bin, I am sure. Only people who read emails now work at NSA.

Yep, gotta make LOTS of noise for NO US ATTACK ON IRAN!
