Mission statement for proposed eBay, collectibles topic

Per DU rules, those of you who expressed interest in the proposed new eBay, flea marketing, collectors, and antiques topic must approve a mission statement. Here's the suggestion I posted in the original thread. If you have any changes or additions to suggest, please post here in this thread. Thanks!

"The mission of the eBay, collectors, flea market, antiques thread is to allow DU members to coach those who wish to engage in the trade of selling, offer knowledge in the art of buying, celebrate lucky finds, tell the stories about the "one that got away" and, most importantly, offer some hope to those looking for an alternate source of income in this age of outsourcing and lost opportunities."

I'll be PM-ing everyone who expressed interest in that original thread, but feel free to jump in here if you hadn't heard about it before tonight! Come one, come all. We're going to have fun, if they'll let us have the thread.

i hit on some surprising results. first, i had sme instinct, but since i research primatives on ebay daily. i got a large 15" rosemaled wood plater at an estate sale. signed Lisney. turns out this guy and his studio were very well regarderd. got it for 8¢ and sold for $71.
so say they do well selling clothes, but so far it is hit and miss. i stick with collectables and such as that kinda person is different and they are better bidders.

and i have something on now, paid 10¢. copper and tin 'mold'. cake? pudding. OLD, went from $2.99 to 10.99 and it still has a day. i know it has a hanging hook and all, and it is pretty, but dang.
oh, did i mention the estate sales?

I tried starting an ebay biz for my parents a few years ago. Various disasters struck, but it remains a something that can be enjoyed and produce added income into retirement. Just need to zero in on more effective approach.

I've got a bookcase full of collector books, books with artists' signatures, pottery marks, etc. and I'm always happy to help someone figure out what they've found. It's actually lots of fun to research "stuff!"

28. As a licensed auctioneer, certified appraiser and Ebay Powerseller I am all for it!

I would also suggest that Skinner think about having an auction fundraiser for DU. My auction company would be happy to be a part of it. I would also be willing to occasionally lend my expertise to the discussion.

I have alot of "pre-China" inherited stuff that I need to sell and I didn't want to go the yard sale or flea market route. Thinking that some of my stuff might be in high demand because of all the "made in China" concerns. I could use the extra money.
