I'd just like to make the point
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 06:41 PM by ChoralScholar
that the tragedy of events are not relative. Someones death, suddenly, at age 39 is tragic - in a perfect world - in a shitty world - in any world.

Just because there are OTHER bad things going on, doesn't make some things important or unimportant.

Why must we make our 'newsworthiness' priorities public, and make them manifest upon everyone else?

If you don't care, move on. That is all.

3. Right On!
Just because we're political doesn't mean we can't have compassion for Human stories. It's very sad. She was young and exploited, just lost a son and has left a motherless baby behind. Very sad.

4. Tragedy Is Interesting
Sorry...but it is. And this story has the word Tragedy written all over it. With a good deal of mystery and intrigue as well.

Don't worry....in a couple of days this will be old news, and we'll still be at war in Iraq. Soldiers will still be getting killed. Congress will still be bickering over non-binding resolutions, and we'll still be living in a facist country.

Talking about this today is not going to impact any of that crap. We're still in a fucked up country, regardless of whether the media gets their ya ya's talking about this.

And for those who are wondering whether it will push other news aside? Like what? The Libby trial? Most of the media is ignoring that anyways.

5. Has cruelty become a part of our national character?
I wonder about that after reading the Anna Nicole posts here, as I have when seeing Freepers enthuse about Senator Johnson's illness.

6. It's not like...
... the threads about Anna are crowding out everything else. This board is not a TV with limited time.

I feel sorry for her, I think she was just another fucked up person trying to get through life. May she rest in peace.

8. I'm disgusted by the reactions, too
There's a certain adolescent mentality that whistles in the dark by making dumb jokes about other people's misfortunes.

I was no fan of Ms. Smith, but when someone dies, my rule is, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
