Russert: ''Integrity is for paupers!''
This has been around for a while, but I don't think everybody has seen it. It's one of those posts worth throwing out again to make sure it's seen by a lot of eyes. Well, I think so anyway. Thanks to Octafish for his latest post on this here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x155285#155497 It's post #19 in the famous thread by H20 Man.

CHOCOLATES AND NYLONS, SIR?

By David Podvin

In 1992, shortly after being named moderator of Meet The Press, Tim Russert was having lunch with a broadcast executive. The mealtime conversation was about the pros and cons of working for General Electric’s NBC subsidiary. Russert expounded on how being employed by GE had brought him to the realization that things functioned better when Republicans were in charge.

“You know, Tim, you used to be such a rabid Democrat when you worked for Pat Moynihan,” said the executive. “But now that you’ve gotten a glimpse of who’s handing out the money in this business, you’ve become quite the Jaycee. Were you wrong about everything you used to believe so strongly?”

“I still believe,” Russert said, leaning across the table. “I believe in everything I ever did. But I also know that I never would have become moderator on Meet The Press if my employers were uncomfortable with me. And, given the amount of money at stake, millions of dollars, I don’t blame them. This is business.”

The executive agreed. “But are you concerned about losing yourself? You know, selling out?”

Russert pounded the table. “Integrity is for paupers!”

4. There you have it. He's as big a sell out as there is.
I knew it all along, of course... ever since Cheney used MTP to sell the Iraq War. And I do mean USED.

5. I refuse to watch him, even when he has someone on whom I like.
If integrity is for paupers, those who are not paupers have not integrity. I guess integrity just doesn't matter to Russert. He is a pathetic waste of time.

12. I bumped into Russert once, maybe two years ago...
..and I looked right at him and went "Eeeeewww, gross!" and backed away with a snarky look on my face.
He didn't like that.

13. My mother believed this guy!
She was better-versed in world affairs than most people I know -- having traveled pretty extensively -- but when I tried to tell her how screwed up the current WH admin was, she'd point to Russert and tell me that he didn't think things were that bad.

I'm sure she felt that someone as connected as that would know more about it than I did, but she couldn't get it through her head that he'd just lie.

Even the well-meaning are dragged into the muck by these propagandists.

14. Don't tell GE, Tim. "Integrity is our core value." (GE policy)
seriously ... that's exactly how it was worded in the policy handbook c. 1994-97

of course, I do believe the Honorable Henry Waxman is still waiting for tapes from former GE CEO, and Poppy Bu$h Trustee, Jack Welch regarding election night 11/7/2000 ... lapse of integrity that night, eh Jack????

... corporate values ... :spray:

Firing another shot in his ongoing feud with NBC, Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles) released an eight-page letter Monday detailing alleged efforts by then-corporate chief Jack Welch--a major contributor to the Republican Party--to intervene in the network's election night decision-making.

I reposted the link on another forum. I thought everyone including the Freepers should know what's become of America's late lamented "free press."

Edited to add: K & R also.

I think I'd rather be a pauper with integrity than a morally bankrupt tool like Russert apparently has become. x( Truly disgusting.

19. Unsubstantiated, unadulterated bullshit. Who provided the quote? Russert or the NBC executive?
This story is ridiculous on its face. Doesn't pass the laugh-out-loud test. It's pure crapola.

22. Precisely my point. Who provided the quote? There's no attribution... It's fiction. A smear piece.
Just because you wish it to be true, doesn't make it so.

Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 08:54 PM by Gabi Hayes
are you calling Podvin a fabricator?

has Russert ever denied saying it?

just because you choose not to believe it doesn't make it not so.

given what we do know about both men, the story certainly rings true.

interesting that you choose to side with your corporate masters.

25. You might as well be asking "since when are FACTS sina qua non for discussion?"
There is no evidence to support the claim in the OP. It's hearsay, uttered in an echo chamber.

Change the name from Russert to Hillary, and this article could be filling freeper inboxes.
