BREAKING: Pentagon Office of Special Plans 'Inappropriate But Legal'
By Spencer Ackerman - February 8, 2007, 4:54 PM
Tomorrow, the Pentagon's Inspector General will release a declassified version of a long-awaited report on the Office of Special Plans, a Pentagon office that's been accused of manipulating prewar Iraq intelligence, particularly on the question of Iraq's ties to al-Qaeda. Bob Burns of the Associated Press has a preview:

Some of the Pentagon's pre-war intelligence work, including a contention that the CIA had underplayed the likelihood of significant al-Qaida connections to Saddam Hussein, was inappropriate but not illegal, a Pentagon investigation has concluded.
In a report to be presented to Congress on Friday, the Pentagon inspector general clears former Pentagon policy chief Douglas J. Feith of allegations by some Democrats of illegal activities — specifically, that he misled Congress about the basis of the administration's assertions on the threat posed by Iraq.

Two people familiar with the findings discussed the main points and some details Thursday on condition they not be identified.

The Senate Armed Services Committee has scheduled a hearing Friday to receive the findings by Thomas F. Gimble, the Pentagon's acting inspector general. The committee's chairman, Carl Levin, D-Mich., has been a leading critic of Feith's role in pre-war intelligence activities and has accused him of deceiving Congress.

for failure to report stock transactions for 11 months.. they found no wrong doing...:banghead:

while at the same time a guy got 15 years for the same thing ..

jim Hicks bought a 50% interest in Harkin oil worth all of $1.2 million for $20 million the stock rocketed up and * sold ALL his stock to Hicks for $850,000 which he invested in the team syndicate, he only made a couple million.. and the syndicate kicked in another $12,000,000 cause he was such a swell guy.. then he ran for Governor of Texas.. that amounts to illegal campaign contributions. as Governor he appointed hicks to manage the university of Texas equity funds.. and stipulated he didn't have to reveal how he invested it or how much he made.. the fund was looted and they lost millions.

8. Considering Gimble's predecessor went to work for Blackwater in 2005
...and Gimble reported directly to that guy (Schmidt) before moving up a slot, I'd consider his investigation biased even if it wasn't being done internally.

Dimson obviously thinks he's doing a swell job which casts even further doubt on Gimble's conclusions; look at the awards he's received:

* Alexander Hamilton Award 2006 – The highest honor bestowed by the President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency, awarded for outstanding achievement in improving the integrity, efficiency or effectiveness of Executive Branch agency operations.
* Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive 2006
